For those with a LSD rear......

    Have you changed the oil your self? What oil did you use?


    Im courious, as I changed mine with
    $30 Mobil 1 75w90 Mobil 1 104361 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)
    Mobil 1 75w90 and used some LSD addative the dealer gave me. I developed a horrible groaning noise when turning. I changed the fluid again, using Mobil 1 formulated for LSD's, and the groaning became WORSE. :confused: Puzzled, I went to the dealer, and used their 80w90 with LSD addative, and all is nice and quiet now. I have never run into a rear LSD that didnt seem to like Mobil 1, and I would like to know what athers have used, or have had the same experience.

    i take mine to get service at the dealer.. i know its a couple bucks more but its worth it to have the warranty. i will be having toyota replace my LSD fluid during my service later this week

    I can't speak for the tacoma.... but from other vehicles with LSD's I've experienced...

    The additive is supposed to cause the LSD to slip (on purpose). If you don't have additive in there or if you don't have enough....the LSD clutches will 'grab' too much causing all sorts of problems/noises. If that's the case - you're supposed to be able to add more additive to queit things down.

    Also...after changing the oil with the additive, you're supposed to do several TIGHT (full lock) 8 turns in both directions. This is supposed to get the oil & additive mixed thoroughly and mixed within the clutch paks.

    My husband and I have used Amsoil Severe Gear lube in our vette. That's got the LSD additive in it. Been working great...

    I have a couple of other vehicles with LSD's. I have never had a problem with them running the Mobil 1 oil and lsd addative. I was supprised that the new Tacoma lsd's were that sensative to gear oils. A few guys on TTORA had the same problem, and when they used the Toyota oil, the problem went away. Just thought it was a little strange, as I have delt with LSD's from Chevy, Dodge, Porsche, and never had this problem before.

    Same here. 80w-90. No friction mod. Works great, never chatters. Over past 3 yrs read some who were ok, but many who ran

    75w-90 full syn and had issues.

    Go cheap. Dino or at most syn blend. Full syn rest of truck if you wish.
