Why a Tacoma and not a 4Runner

of course needs change. I'm just talking about a guy debating on buying a Taco or a 4R right now.

Yes, you can buy a hitch mount carrier for the 4R, but then you are limited on what kind of bike you can haul. The 4R can accept 300lbs of tongue weight. That's not a lot. Most sport bikes are 400+lbs

With a trailer, you need a place to put a trailer, and in CA -- limited to 55mph on the highway.

 

it's actually 500 lbs tongue weight

 

But you have to account for the hitch carrier weight and how far the bike+hitch sticks out from the hitch mount.

All motorcycle hitch carriers rate the 4R as 300lbs max you can carry.

I've done the hitch thing on an SUV. Not fun.

 

I'm not saying it's ideal, but if that were my only need for a truck that is the route I would go, I can get more use out of the 4runner the rest of the time. If I hauled it regularly then I would lean towards a truck or at least a small trailer.

Get the kids out of the house rip out the jump seats and turn it over to the dogs.

If you have ever had your dog hit by a skunk you would never ever need to ask why a truck over a SUV. Besides you need a tailgate to sit on at the end of the day and have a short nip. Even the dogs appreciate having a tailgate

 

never had one get into a skunk but our lab growing up had a fetish of rolling in cow patties when we would go camping.

 

One thing about a 4Runner is there's no dust on your cargo. I never could get the Tacoma or the Tundra with toppers sealed properly. Gen 1 Tacoma I got that sealed up pretty good, Gen 2 Tacoma and Gen 1 Tundra not so much. There's tradeoffs everywhere between SUV or truck.

 

Yeah, that's a problem with an SUV. Thanks for the heads up, been there before. I guess I'll carry a bottle of skunk shampoo in the Runner. I carry two five gallon buckets bungeed at the rear of the Runner with two 2-gallon water flasks. Hopefully that can do the trick.

 

I don't like the look of the 4Runner, plus I need the box.
