4L beeping

Hi. I just bought a used 07 Tacoma 4x4 V6 TRD SR5. Generally it's great, but I tried to put it in 4L over the weekend for the first time and it just beeps at me and doesn't seem to go in. I did what the manual specifies, which is coming to a full stop, and I tried driving at different speeds to see if it need help to go in. I even backed up a little, but it seems to just beep repeatedly and stay in 4H. Turning the dial back to 4H makes the beeping stop.
Does anyone have any suggestions before I take it to the dealer? The nearest one is about 1.5 Hrs away and if possible, I'd love to figure this out without having to make the trip. Could it be a fuse or something like that?

Beeping means your not in 4LO. What exactly where you doing to engage 4LO?

 

I was driving in 4H and came to a complete stop. I turned the dial to 4L and started driving again. Did I miss something? I don't have the manual or truck with me so maybe I missed something? Does the shifter need to be in a certain position? I tried it in the lower range gears (4, 3, 2, L) and it all seemed to behave the same.

If its an automatic transmission, you must be in neutral or else it will not go into 4LO. I dont know about manual transmissions.

 

It is an auto. I think that may have been the one thing I didn't try. I'll give it a shot tonight. Thanks!

LOOK UP at the sun visor the card on that tell you how to do it.

 

On the manual you have to be stopped and have the clutch pressed all the way down before you turn the switch.

 

Well this is an auto, so no clutch. But I did get it figured out. Initially, I didn't realize the shifter had to be in N. Once I did that it went right in. I think I was so excited to get out in the new truck I didn't read that part of the manual well enough and it didn't stick. Anyway, it's all good now.
