False, a proper bump stop will prevent you from using the shock as a bump, but on the side flexing out he'll be using his shock as a limit strap. Obviously not as bad as catchingair and drooping out hard against the shocks, but still not great. IIRC the standards use the same main leaf as the expos and I was pulling around 11 1/2" of travel with expos with the BAMF tower and 12" Fox shocks, so standard length or even extended length rear shocks in the stock location will be too short if you wanna use the leafs to their full capacity.

 

I disagree. If the bump stop is the proper length it will stop the axle from flexing beyond the maximum length of the shock on the flex side. Therefore stopping the shock from being the limit strap. This also stops the leaf pack from going too far into negative arch. Lots of negative arch kills a leaf spring pack quickly. But it depends on your intentions with your set up. If you are fine with replacing leafs pack sooner then normal, go for it.

 

Ok, you are correct about a bump stopping the axle from stuffing the tire to high and causing to much negative arch, but we're talking about limit straps and the OTHER SIDE of the axle that will be drooped out immensly with AP standard leafs and a shock utilizing the oem mount points will not be long enough and the shock will be the limiting factor, hence limit straps.

I had the standards and the expos. As long as you don't have a shackle flip kit, you can get extended (proper length) shocks that mount in the stock location, long enough so that they don't max out. I still have about an inch of shock left at full droop and about 5/8" at bump. 15.9 coll, 26.8 ext. So no need for straps.

 

Yeah is that fully flexed out or just jacked up? Did you flex everything out with just the main leaf to see where you're bumping and drooping to?

Explain it to me oh wise one because it is working on my truck with 11" ICON's, 61" Alcan springs, Shackle Flip, and FOX 2.5" air bumps.

Maybe I misunderstood your post, but my understanding is that a proper bumpstop setup will actually get you more downtravel on the dropped side when flexing. This is because the axle now has a fulcrum point to push down off of as opposed to just the weight of the axle and tire pulling it down.

With the shackle flip and AP standards, you'll need to make sure and get the Timbrens that AllPro sells with them. Droop is good, but the Standard springs do not like to negative arch, so make sure to adjust your shackle flip. I learned from experience.

I see where you are going but then wouldn't the stuffed tire still continue moving up? The rear axle is fixed. If one tire goes down the other tire goes up. So if you are bump stopped properly you are stopping the stuffed tire side from going any higher. That in turn stops the flexed side from going any further down.

I guess this is possible depending on where you set up a progressive bump stop vs. where you measure for shocks. If you are doing it based on when the bump touches the strike plate then yes there is more travel beyond that. With my FOX air bumps I measured based on the "hard stop" of my bumps. I have roughly 1/2" more extension in the shock on the flexed side and roughly a 1/4" on the compressed side when I am fully bumped. The springs go barely negative.

 

Your logic works if your talking about vertical travel and hitting both bumps at once. Hitting one bump stop while flexing will not necessary stop you axle from rotating on that singular point.

 

I get that but if the tire rotates on the bump and goes too far you are either hitting too much negative arch or body/frame parts. So if you are bumping it at flat spring(recommended by all spring manufacturers) or just barely beyond flat you will not have an issue nor will you need a limit strap.

 

But if the bump is in line with the leaf springs side to side, you would only twist the leaf spring, not change the arch.

Agreed. But if it is bumped for flat spring on a 59" leaf pack the twist is not going to take the travel beyond max extension of a 2.5" bodied KING with resi's mounted in the factory location.

 

anyone know the part number or what it's called? been searching for a while with no luck. Bought new lowers and I need the OEM part for them to work
