Got this gusset thingy installed. It definitely took all of the flex out of the swingout/bumper. The swingout and heavy tire is much more solid now. Thanks for helping me out! @xmods

Pelfrey bumper correct? I'll have to keep this mod in mind when my HC/Swingout arrives.

This is not needed on the high clearance. Iirc the HC swingout/hinge design is already more rigid. I have the standard bumper with a big heavy tire on it and the bumper used to flex on big bumps/hits.

Yep, my HC doesn't move. I heard they are redesigning them though (the swing out)? I don't know what needs to change honestly. Maybe just a refresh on the looks.

Definitely good to know. I wonder how they're going to redesign?

I would think it will be the same but with the gusset/bracing installed.

I received my radiator support bushings. These are from the Tacoma specific kit. I originally had the universal kit that a lot of guys were using and felt that it just didn't seem to fit correctly. The universal kit did work, but by having both kits I can say that I feel the specific kit fits better. The universal kit seemed too small with the small bushing on top and too big with the larger bushing on top. The sleeve that came with it was also too thin. This is what came with the "full" Tacoma kit:

Unlike the universal kit, these bushings are made to fit perfectly into the dimples on the support, the sleeve is also stronger and the correct length to the bushings. The bushings are slightly softer but not by much.

Some people had mentioned that they could keep tightening one side more than the other. The reason that was happening is because they over torqued it and ripped the sleeve through the top washer. (ask me how I know)

When mounted and torqued correctly, both sides will get snug at the same place on the bolt.

I've got the universal kit sitting in my garage, and contemplated the same thing as you. I may have been just pursuaded to get the "specific" kit with cab bushings as well. Btw, what did you torque these bolts to, and how do they feel now that they're changed out?

The universal will work but after having both, I couldn't recommend it. The truck feels exactly the same as the universal kit. I honestly feel that the slightly softer bushing is better to allow a tiny bit of flex. I tried torquing to 35 lbs and that felt like too much so I ended up just using a smaller wrench and just hand snuggled it. I drew a line through the nut and bolt with a welders paint pen so I cold see if the nut backs off any. You could also use blue locktite and just hand snug the bolt. It didn't take much to push the sleeve through the washer. The bushing set is made so that it tightens up to the sleeve and stops.

Dana, what's the deal with these bushings and everyone jumping on them? Did you have issues with the OEM ones?

Everyone thinks they have taco lean to the driver's side but most of the time it's just the driver's side radiator support bushing that is smashed/failing. New bushings took out about a 1/4" of taco lean, then I could take preload out of my coilover.

You can check this by measuring the space between the frame and the radiator support on the two support bushings. You'll see how much lower the driver's side is compared to the passenger.

    A couple updates:

I get better milage using 89 octane than 92.

Got the blinging TRD exhaust tip back on the chopped "turn down".

It got a little more of that rumbly sound back. It is still not as loud as a non cut TRD exhaust, but I like it how it is now because there's no drone at freeway cruising speed.
