Looking for input on why I should go with the offroad vs the SR5. I know there is a thread with SR5 vs Sport, but after reading that, I don't feel the need for the sport. I will be using the truck for home improvement stuff, road trips, and off roading on the beach. I will not be rock crawling or any heavy duty offroad stuff. I am between the SR5, offroad, and a ram 1500 but after spending countless hours on this site, I think I will be going Tacoma.

    Wants:
2016 DCLB SR5 4X4 with appearance package and all weather floor mats and door sill
2016 DCLB Offroad 4X4 with Tech and Tow, No JBL. All weather floor mats and door sill
The price difference I see with these is 33599 and 37209 (MSRP pricing)

Also, I have a few buyers looking to come see my current car a 2014 BMW 328I and do not know when I will be able to actually unload it. If it goes soon I will need to go with a 2016, but am I better waiting for the 2017s to come out?

I think this has been covered...kinda.

    Short list:
    Locker
    Crawl Control
    MTS
    Brakes
    greasable ujoints-zerks, propeller shaft.

however, if your only going to do light offroading or plan on doing many upgrades, the SR5 would be the way to go.

I had a similar thread recently looking at the various trim levels and after all the great responses I've settled on a 2017 SR5.

I have heard of people having build orders in with dealers where Toyota has come back and said it will be a 2017 not a 2016. It looks like the '17 has already entered production.

Personally I would absolutely wait for the 2017 at this point...you're not really going to see a price difference between the '16 and '17 and we can hope that a few of the issues on the '16 will get fixed on the '17.

    Just my 2 cents.

I could see you actually using crawl control; at the beach.
Also, you do get a good set of goodies.
All up to you if you want to pony up the ~4k extra.

If a dealer has both, pin them into selling you the Offroad/SR5 at a lower price.

Con them into saying that the Offroad has only a few minor improvements for the extra 4k, trying to lower the MSRP on the OffRoad.
    OR
Say that the SR5 is so expensive, you might as well get an OffRoad for that $33k+ pricetag, trying to lower the MSRP on the SR5.

Life is all about perspective. Think like a salesman and make him work for his money.

Do you mind letting me know what you paid for the 2017?

I appreciate the response, the last time I was on the beach was in a 1994 ford f150, so I dont have any experience with the crawl control

You might want to get the plain SR5 and add your own appearance package and weathertech mats..... The only hard to change is the fender flares.

I vote offroad. Without the tech package, the cost difference is minimal. If you go with an MT, the cost is basically the same as an SR5 auto.

I was in the same boat when looking for mine. At the end of the day I decided the extra 4-6K was not worth the added features on the OR. I do light to moderate wheeling with my 4x4 SR5 and have been more then happy with it. Now that I have added the Cooper AT3' its really gotten fun. My buddies in their Jeeps and lifted fo by fo chebies are very impressed with how well the Tacoma does. Some things that they struggle with the Tacoma gets through with ease. I say save the extra cash (mod money) and get the SR5 4x4.

I bought the TRD OR. Wished id have gone for a simpler more basic 4x4 SR5. With money saved could have put my own tires wheels suspension and locker on it.

Thank you for the replies. I will take them all into consideration.

One last question, does anyone that has purchased a long wished they got a short or vice versa? I wont have trouble driving a long and the extra space may or may mot come in handy one day but I think the short looks a little better

Disregard that last post. I conducted a search and fold a million results with the same question. I will sift through them

I probably would have gotten a long bed if one in the configuration I wanted was available for about the same price. That being said, the short bed will be easier to live with on a day to day basis. I can stick 8X4 ply in the bed no problem, that's about the most I'd need, so I can't say I'm hurting for the long bed. When you think about it, 99% of the time, I don't wish I had the long bed.
