I see. Well, that makes sense. I've also tested and compared driving at higher RPMs and higher speeds to driving like a calm person and rarely exceed 2,000 RPM. The result is a 2+- MPG difference.

Did a little experiment commuting to work which is an 1hr each way. Drove like grandpa all week, RPMs never higher than 2k-2.5k, cruising speed around 50-55 mph, rolled around in neutral down hills and up to stops signs as much as possible. 5 spd 4x4 access cab with 265/70R17 P-rated Duratracs mounted on SCS Stealth 6s.

Was able to do 435.1 miles (odo read 675.2 kms (419.5 miles) plus correction for tire size) and then filled up till the first click at the same gas station. Put in 65.61L (17.33 gal).

25.1MPG!!! Pretty excited that the truck is capable of that however, realistically it was a true pain in the ass to achieve it and not worth the the few bucks saved. Life is short and I drive a Tacoma, not a Prius!

I drive mostly grandpa style, with the 5 speed MT in my '16 AC, and consistently get 24 mpg commuting to and from work at mostly ~60 mph. Goes down to 22 when I start driving up into the mountains, but I'm fine with that.

I've been averaging 16.8mpg but possibly due to I'm running a supercharger . I however did replace the stock exh manifold with a Doug Thorley TRI Y Header recently . The Engine seems to respond better to throttle input so I'm hoping the next fill up will show an increase in mpg

4x4? Next week I'm gonna try to bring my speed up to to 60mph and see if I can still do 4 trips on one tank.

Yup, 4x4. I'm really easy on the throttle, and shift to keep the RPMs low. I live and commute in the Denver area, not sure if that would affect it (less air drag vs less air into the engine). Also, I'm commuting on highways with 2+ lanes each direction, going opposite the heavy traffic, so I can take my time getting up to speed without pissing too many people off. I'm tempted on my next tank to drive with a lead foot and see what it does.

I am amazed at the mileage some people get out of their truck...
I recently switched from a 6 mile commute to a 40 mile commute each way...So I went from filling up 1.5 times a month to every weekend...but now i get way better mileage :)

I have used fuelly for EVERY fill up on my truck. I just replaced the stock grand trek tires with 245/75/r16 Michelin Defender LTX M/S (the newest version). They were installed at 30psi and I ran them for 2 weeks before checking pressure and now I have them at 35psi and I want to see what happens...The ride got a hair stiffer but I'll take that if I can squeeze more MPG out..

I usually do 70-73mph cruise control the whole way...I try to avoid all aggressive driving because it's bad for the truck and my wellness....

I am a solid 21.5 it seems...I got 23.7 once moving a mattress from NH...something about the aerodynamics of the mattress and box spring gave me 2mpg

I drive 44 miles round trip to work 4 days a week. I average 23-24mpg using a calibrated scan gauge 2. I also am running stock 245/75r16 on stock steel wheels with a 3 inch lift. Speed is averaging 65mph-mostly flat with little incline/declines.

The key is to keep it in 6th as best as you can (automatic) and at 60-65mph. No hard accelerations.

2011 RC 4x4 auto with 265/75/r16 wheels and camper shell. I do 75% highway driving and average 20-22. I usually fill up 18ish gallons and get about 380 miles or so. Just got the truck so not sure how MPGs do in the winter but I can live with 20ish MPG.

I am surprised with mine for sure, I get about 26 right now! My old 2wd tacoma got around 28.
I swear the gas is different everywehre compared to California... As soon as I got out of California, my milage went up 3 mpg(from 21 to 24) from Oregon all the way up to Alaska

Well, I tried. I really did. Made sure to think about going heavy on the throttle off the line, keeping rpm's up, not shifting up until I was over 3k rpm, etc. And I still got 23.2 MPG. (Test was done from full to 1/2 tank over 3 days of normal driving, 87 octane from King Soopers, same pump on start and finish fill-ups, me and ~40 lbs climbing gear in the truck). Last tank before that (driving to/from a mountain town) was 25.4 MPG. Usual commuting still seems to get me about 24 mpg.

its a Toyota truck and that's all the modifications needed
tire weight has a lot to do with it too grand treks weigh 32lbs. and Michelins ms2 weigh 34lbs. each 1 lb. over stock weight equals 10lbs carrying weight so you are carrying(pushing) an extra 80lbs compared to before, not much but contributes to a few tenths of gas used. I will put on the ms2 on my truck when the dunflops are worn out, only other MS tire that is lighter in weight is the Firestone LE its 31lbs.. ive noticed with the 4 banger any slight variation to stock in weight really makes a difference in mpgs, also using my air conditioner significantly reduces power and mpgs to the point of not being able to maintain road speed and merging into traffic is almost dangerous.

Thats pretty decent. If I'm late for work I can get her into the teens lol. That's with a bit of redline and cruising speeds of 75-80mph. But the 2TR isn't really a pleasing or rewarding engine to beat on. It'll move a little if you need it too but it doesn't sound like it's enjoying it. So I prefer to just cruise around and enjoy the scenery.

i consistently get 19-20mpg but i live in the hill country, put the pedal to the floor regularly, have a steel plate bumper, and have load range E michelins all around so im assuming this is because of the added weight and my driving habits

I've been getting a consistent 22-24 mpg under the absolutely worst conditions... no freeway driving, and lots of crawling up and down steep hills fully loaded in first gear. Modifying the engine for low rpm pull has kept it from being a lot worse.

My very best mileage was on an 800+ mile all-freeway round trip to Sacramento... 30.6 mpg.
