Reading this forum has turned me away from buying new Tacoma

I have a 2010 Tacoma, running fine, no real issues. I have been waiting to order a new Tacoma since early january 2016 to see if issues like tranny fluid levels, engine noises, poor shifting resolve. Right now, I'm wondering if all these poor reports are a vocal minority of owners?

In other words, does having a popular online forum like TacomaWorld exaggerate the problem making it seem more widespread than it really is in the real world. Are the majority of Tacomas problem free? I like my current Tacoma but want a change, how widespread are these Tacoma issues?

Honestly, the Honda is where I'm thinking of buying. I don't rock crawl and it's not a work vehicle. I haul mountain bikes, golden retrievers and sleep/camp out of the back. It has a camper shelltoo.

I don't care if the Honda is not a "real truck", I'm all about carry dirty bikes, wet dogs and campground camping.

Majority are problem free... 2nd gen was just like this during their first initial run back in the day. Most people here exaggerate and troll aka stir up crap.

And a Honda isn't a real truck. You don't have to rock crawl or work out of it just to own a Tacoma. Ask your dogs, I bet they will vote Tacoma .

Aside from the trans "issues" obviously attributed to the transmission learn procedure, zero issues out of mine so far. (granted im only at 1011 miles as of this morning). All vehicles have their issues with all the new tech going in. I figure its under warranty so if it starts having an actual problem ill deal with it as it comes.

Even my 2003 had issues now and then. Bottom line, I liked it and enjoyed driving it. So far I am very happy with my new 2016. Personally I can not see myself owning any truck that isn't a Tacoma. Good luck.

I truly believe to each their own. For the longest time I went back and forth between the 3rd gen taco and new ecoboost f150. I do know that they are 2 totally different trucks (Tacoma mid size and f150 full size) but I am glad I opted for the Toyota. One thing I do t get is why people feel the need to post why the decided against the Tacoma? That's just gonna keep you hanging around on here when you should be on the Honda forums. I mean, I don't go back to the f150 forums to say that I opted out of the Ford F-150 because of the lack of aftermarket accessories compared to the tacomas huge after market accessories available... I don't know. Maybe it's just me but I never understood why people feel the need to state "why I didn't buy a Tacoma". Anywaise, just my $.02. Have a good day OP and enjoy the new vehicle.

I do believe by having a forum exaggerates the issues because the average taco driver believe it or not doesn't even enter this site. My uncle has driven tacos for years and has never heard of this site, he's one of thousands, if not millions. So, even though I'm damn glad I joined and am extremely grateful I know for a fact any website dedicated to one "thing", will have extremes. Of course there are people who are truly having issues, but I still believe it's minority, not majority, but what the hell do I know? I'm still a rookie here as far as my tenure.

Yes, reading this forum could make you paranoid about buying a Taco. I only joined because I was looking at a new truck. I really had to sift through all the BS to decide to buy one. I bought one because it seemed better fit than the GM twins (despite fewer features), resale (I could easily sell it and get something else), and I liked the one I test drove. Also, I have worked on cars long enough to understand most of what the problems were and that helped me decide that most of what I was reading wasn't quite as it seems. There are some with legitimate problems, but quite a few are having to adjust to something that is a little different than they are used to.

I'm pretty happy with my Taco, but based on your comments, I think either the Taco or the Honda would suit your needs fine. The twins might too.

@FASTK your going to get a great vehicle switching to the Honda Ridgeline. Both of these trucks are good, but the Honda is better in almost every task except extreme off roading which 90% of Tacoma owners don't use.

Don't let these people on the forums tell you otherwise. All you need to do is go test drive a new Ridgeline and see the difference for yourself. The Honda Ridgeline is a great vehicle, better in most practical cases.

I actually really think these posts are very useful. For other potential buyers it helps them know that some people turned away for the mentioned reasons.

If I was the OP I'd keep my 2008. 2nd gen wasn't a bad truck (i have a 2013) and I really don't think the cost to upgrade is going to provide meaningful gains in any regard... but hey, his choice.

I think the posters saying "Good Luck" or "why tell us you're buying a Honda" are missing the point. I like Toyota, I like my Gen2 but this website has made me skeptical that I can have a good vehicle with the Gen3.

Is all this constant bashing of the Gen3 issues a vocal minority? Is the Tacoma 2016 version a dog with many fleas?

I haven't bought anything yet, just say'n this website may give many buyers serious second thought about buying a Tacoma. I won't buy a GM so not many other choices in the mid-size truck category.

7,000 km in to my Tacoma now and no complaints at all.

Like you said, the ridgeline may not be the most "Truck" thing out there. But from the point of view of a family man who doesn't leave the pavement and just needs a rig to haul around kids, dogs, and bikes, I totally get the appeal of an AWD SUV with a box on the back.

I think it's an apples to oranges comparison really, but I think Honda made some good steps forward on this new Ridgeline.

Go check out Honda Ridgeline's forum. I've been a member of many forums for different vehicles I've owned and you always get people bitching about the specific vehicle and blowing problems out of proportion. Remember this is the first year of the 3rd gen, most problems were during initial production. Many members with recent 2016 purchases will tell you that they are more than happy.

Problems are more widespread than what TW would like you to believe. Many problem threads have been deleted, to save face of the 2016's, like this one:

No, I just give credit due to a superior product.

Your telling me that the competition sat back and watched Toyota rake in profits in mid size trucks without putting much effort in for 10 years?

You have got to be kidding me! Also I think it would be more appropriate to call the "Gen 3" a Gen 2.25. They carried over so much it's funny.

If the Ridgeline is so superior. Maybe Toyota will base their next midsize truck off of the Highlander.

I understand these concerns very well. I started reading this forum after ordering my TRDOR with AT. I was really worried.... I've had it for about 2 weeks now and I have none of the issues I so feared. I love the truck.

You are right. I may have missed the point and I may just be defending my weird attachment to my taco but don't get me wrong, I am one of those owners with a defective taco. Mine came with the vibrating hood free of charge. Lol. Other than that, no issues. Oh and it took me a while get over the hunting gears in the tans mission. Now I'm at 6k miles and that seemed to work itself out like others have said. I guess I weighed out the bad from the good from everything I've read on here and the good won. Nothing wrong with doing your research. I did. I mean, who was $35k-$40k these days that they can just throw around and gamble on an investment. Again, I may have been just defending my Tacoma.

And yes, I read through people's thoughts on f150s which ultimately pushed me towards the Tacoma, so the OP was correct about that. I mean, who needs the back massaging seat option that the f150 offers? Lol.
