Headstrong does not recommend running bilstein 5100s with OME 886 coils due to the stiffness.

Anyone running this combo and have any problems?

I know, I know, Im also surfing the forums for answers!

    Thanks for any input.

A lot of people run this set up. It's only recommended if you have extra weight in the front i.e. bumper and winch. The 886s are meant to handle that and it will be too stiff without it.

Yes i have a relentless steel bumper on the way, I will get a winch (synthetic line), and front skids. Should be enough weight to keep it smooth.

Yeah, you'll definitely want the 886 coils then.

Don't you think they have some reason why?

Could it be that the 5100 is pretty much an OE replacement, and the damping rate is inadequate to properly control that heavy a spring?

Pick the right spring for the job, then match the shock/strut to properly control the spring.

I would think if that was the reason, they would have specified. More than likely they didn't know he had armor on the front, in which it would be too stiff. SO many people on here run it and have zero problems.

No problems here. The ride quality will be completely subjective, so one persons definition of stiff will be different than another.

I like my ride. I also just added Dirt King LCA's. The ride became a little "softer" in uneven terrain and a bit more "bouncy" over speed bumps. I also got a little bit of lift from them, and the guys at Dirt King said that would happen, especially with the 886's.

All in all, I'm happy with the setup with one exception. I think I need longer shocks. I may look into the Tundra 5100's in the future.

Ok awesome! Headstrong just said that they have not fully tested the combo. They also said they generally recommend the OME shocks with the springs.

I just order the kit so it should be in this week or next. I have a steel front bumper being delivered this week so i need to get this lift installed pronto!!

Thanks for all the feed back!

You can't install OME coils on 6112's. The spring seat is flat on the 6112's, not notched like 5100's. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

No problemo! The 6112's come with 610lb coils. If something heavier was needed Wheeler's offers them with a heavier 650 or 700lb coil, but I forget which coil brand. The replacement coils need to be flat on the top and bottom like the coils are on Fox / King / Icon, etc.

Don't have buyer's remorse, though. The 6112's are valved specifically to the 610lb coil they come with. Going to higher spring rate coils would probably hurt their dampening characteristics.

At any rate, here's the post that references aftermarket coils on 6112's:
