Funny thing with forums is that they are intended to help a community solve issues and share ideas. So, you are going to read about every problem in existence. Have you checked out a Honda Ridgeline forum? Assuming one exists, you'll probably encounter a group similar to this one venting their issues.

I bought a Tacoma because of what I've read on these forums. It's my first Toyota and my first truck in probably 15 years. I absolutely love my '16 Tacoma and haven't had a single issue. The other reason I bought the Tacoma is because of all of the support and options I find here. That may not be of value to you in your decision based on what you plan to use the Ridgeline for, but you definitely have to be objective when browsing forums.

A thread about perfectly running Tacomas would be super boring!
    Good luck!

Just the opposite actually. The Ridgeline's poor sales helped convince Toyota to stick with the established basic config for the Tacoma.
Go test drive a new Tacoma, if possible drive the exact truck you are thinking of buying and see if the vibrations, weird shifting, etc. are present. Do the same with the 2017 Ridgeline.

The Ridgeline's torque-vectoring rear diff may be susceptible to wearout (think 100k) because it has a constant ~6% slip. It also needs fluid replacement with Honda synth fluid at 7500 miles then every 15k miles.

I am grateful that Toyota chose to stay with a Truck frame for the Tacoma.

She's a very smart woman. Her car cost a lot less than my Taco! She's very simple, doesn't care about expensive cars. She also makes much more than me.

Whatever problems Toyota trucks might have can be fixed. That cannot be said of the other options. Even in perfect working order they still suck in comparison.

I've got a '10 too, running fine, paid off. I see no compelling reason to get a G3.

If I was looking, I too would check out the Honda. It would fit all my needs, and do so with a far superior ride. That's just much more important to me these days than the other stuff.

If you look on the Internet at any vehicle I don't think you will be buying anything soon IMO. Honda makes a truck ?

    Towing capacity only 5K. :militarypress:

I just hit 90k miles on my 2010. Had it exactly 6 years today. Its an SR5, so nothing fancy. Only modifications are the camper shell and the console safe, plus did the group buy for Wet Oakley. Paid $28k, trade estimate is $20k. If I buy new Tacoma going with Limited, if I go Honda going with RLT-E; both are ~$40k. I'm about creature comforts.

I have driven them both, used to trust Toyota quality, reliability, the Honda was impressive ride quality (smooth, quiet), some unique features (bed trunk, tailgate). I don't want to make a Toyota purchase with a mountain of published issues published here telling me stay away.

The Ridgeline forum is active ans so far the new owners aren't voicing anywhere near the intial issues vocied by new Gen3 owners. So is that Honda quality or smaller universe of owners? Are Gen3 trucks not yet sorted out? IDK.

Hey bud, you ultimately have to make the final decision. Whatever you do, no regrets. I bought new ford in April and had strong regrets, getting my new Taco and I'm very happy, as are many on here and elsewhere. Sounds like you like the Honda, I wish you happiness regardless of what you buy. Unreal trade in 6 years later considering mileage and what you paid, that has to be at least part of decision. Again, regardless I'd buy extended warranty on either. Just not what they want.

So moral of the story, the 2nd gen has some of the same issues and fast forward to today and were they really issues? 2nd gen Tacomas are holding up VERY well and there are a lot of members on here who traded their 2nd gen in for a 3rd.

They aren't happy with their 3rd gen but also weren't happy with their 2nd gen to begin with. Now a lot of those people want their 2nd gen back.

True there. Just love reading the trade in of used Taco's I read about. Trade in folks! Not private. Trade in!!! Ford, Chevy, Dodge can't say that.

ok, you do realize that there's a quantitative reason for all your pro v. cons --- right?

personally, i don't care what you choose, but this thread is enjoyable... so, (can't believe i'm doing this) do the math. approx 200k tacos on the road. active thread demographic. vocal f-ng thread demographic actually --- the Ridgeline (which i like and feel has a place in the market) is just getting started.

wait 12 months for the same thread titles, in the honda forum to creep, then make a decision.

again, not trumpeting toyota here as i have some nagging items which will be looked after at first oil, but, fair is fair.

    drive safe.

I am newer to this forum but have been members on multiple other forums over the past 10+ years. I have had a 1994 Toyota Pickup, 2006 Tacoma, 2007 Tundra, 2010 Corolla and now a 2016 Tacoma. All except the 06 and 16 Tacoma's into the 120-140k mile range running strong with no issues and great resale values. I do miss my 94 and looked for a 1st gen Tacoma before buying my 3rd gen but it just wasn't big enough, nevermind so goddamn expensive with high mileage. My 06 Tacoma and 07 Tacoma were both criticized very similarly in the beginning of their generations as well but people still bought them and are still putting a ton of miles on them. I read a little here on the 3rd gen before buying but at the end of the day I liked the truck. Yeah it shifts odd for the first 5,000 miles and makes you think what did I get myself into but I have 7,000 on it now and it has learned how I drive and I enjoy it every day. I average 20mpg doing 75ish commuting 70mi roundtrip to Boston. Go read the what I like about my tacoma thread. I honestly think a lot more people are online nowadays trying to figure out whats wrong with everything in their lives instead of opening a manual or taking it to a dealer or whatever.

I would just keep the 2010 a little longer. Great truck and buys time to reinforce either decision.

The body style of the Ridgeline looks like it's out of the 90's. Reviews call it conventional to be nice.
