well one big plus is not having to set the adjustment at the maximum setting to get the desired lift. its a longer and stronger spring. the front end of the 3rd gen is heavier, by how much i do not know, but i know its more then a 2nd gen bc i compared the lift amount that i achieved and another who achieved the same and didnt go nearly as low. the 3rd gens came from factory with a heavier coil then previous gens. i dont mind that much of a stiffer ride as it feels nicer on the road and my 650 seem soft in the front.

Ah shoot, you're right. The 700lb springs are under "options," not part of the kit itself.

 

OK overloads are off. It rides much better now. Meaning less harsh, with them on I felt like I could never relax while driving. On bumps and holes it was way to stiff, jarring me around. On hwy I felt every little crack/ imperfection. I'm still a little confused how it made that much difference on the hwy with the overloads not coming into contact with the leaf springs? But it makes a difference!
I do wish I had the 700lb coil I think. I would love to see what they feel like.

For those that are thinking Icon with the 650lb coils.
Don't expect to get any more than 2" lift. I am just under that and have slightly over 2" thread showing on driver side and 1 5/8" on passenger side. Icon recommends not going more than 1 3/4" of thread showing. Again I have a DCLBOR.
At that height, the ride is much stiffer. I will probably lower it down a couple turns in a few weeks, and that kinda sux. In the end I expect to have 1 1/2" of lift to get a little softer ride, but that remains to be seen. I will report back if I make that adjustment. I will roll with what I have for a couple weeks.
Don't expect it to ride anything like factory at that setting. Now with overloads out it is softer, but nothing like the riding on a slightly bouncy cloud factory feeling of the OR factory set up. (my seats / headrests rattle a little more now) if that makes any sense?
Ride feel is an opinion. I like that it recovers a lot quicker after big hits, but prefer factory ride on the hwy. (the wife doesn't like the new feel)
If the 700lb coils are longer than the 650lb, That would be the way to go, ( I think?) and what I will do at rebuild time. Assuming the guys with the 700lb coils have good things to say.

Quick question, did you swap your tires to the Toyo AT2's at the same time as the Icon lift? The tires could have affected your ride quality as well.

 

Hi All:

Was looking for some guidance on how high I can set my Icon coilovers. Took my truck to a shop to adjust them, and Im afraid they cranked them down too far. The UCA is pointing down at a pretty wicket angle (will post pics soon.) I want to say there are about 2-2.5 inches of thread above the collar. Thanks for the input!

 

No, the Toyo's went on 3 days after buying the truck.

 

Icon site says 1 3/4" of thread showing max. I called them on this and the said you should be able to go 2" no prob. just not recommended.

EDIT: Icon says 2.13" max for the 2016

 

as far as adjusting, id do that myself if i were you. get a spanner wrench and lift the front end and adjust one turn at a time. after every adjustment drive around then check height again. i would say you are way too high. check measurement from center of hub to fender and report back

 

im lucky that ICON happens to be a few miles away from me and swap coils for free if you buy the 700 coils. but i do recommend 3rd gens going that route, i havent heard a bad review from people doing that yet

Gotcha. Yeah man I generally do all the work myself, installed everything my self, however I don't have a lift/jack right now that is tall enough to get my wheels off of the ground. Ill measure the high from the hub and report back, with pics as well. Thanks so much for the quick response and feedback.

 

i had that same exact problem lol i went to harbor freight and they had a decent hydraulic lift there for like a 100$ and it goes up to like 23" or something like that and thats high enough for that center lift point in the front of truck. that and 2 jackstands and you will be good to do any work on it. good luck

 

Just looked up on the site again. It says for the 2016 it requires more preload to get lift height, says to not exceed 2.13" of thread showing. I am there on the driver side but only got 1 7/8" of lift, not the advertised 2 3/4".

 

Just did a live chat with someone at autoanything. Here is what they ended up saying when I asked about a 20% discount on an Icon kit: "I just checked with my manager, and nowhere in our history for the past year has this been eligible for a 20% promotion, I'm really sorry to disappoint."

 

lols. I, and likely hundreds of others have gotten a 20% discount on Icon "stage" kits in the last few weeks.

I also spoke to AA a couple hours ago, and they told me that their policies are to never give any sort of discounts on special orders, but buying a stage kit through their site is not in that boat. The guy you spoke with didn't know what he was talking about.

 

Well Icon products are excluded from the coupon codes on their site. Not sure how people are getting these discounts.

 

Maybe that's some new restriction, or is only applicable to certain coupon codes?

I literally added the Stage 4 kit and spanner wrench to cart, googled "autoanything discount code," grabbed the 20%-off code from retailmenot.com (one of the first google results), plugged it into the shopping cart, and that was that.

 

Just tried the SUNSOUT 20% off code and it doesn't work. Says "discount promotions do not apply" Under their list of excluded brands Icon is right there.

 

My understanding is that ICON is overwhelmed with orders (they sold out of all stock and my order got delayed by two weeks because of that), so I'd imagine the sale has had its intended effect and now new policies are in place that no longer allow for the discount.

Maybe ICON just wanted to clear out old stock, or maybe this was meant to take an intentional $$ hit in order to get more market share (reviews & bragging from many new purchases resulting in free marketing & increase in popularity). Who knows...

 

Perhaps somewhat related: I called AA earlier today asking them to call ICON and request that my 650lb springs be replaced with 700lb springs (for an extra cost) - something ICON offers right on their website. Long story short is that they refused to do that (I would have expected this to be a 30-second "yeah, no problem, send us extra $$ and you're good" call), and to get this setup I'd have to cancel existing order (which hasn't shipped) and place a new "special order" for all individual parts, which wouldn't be able to get the 20% discount. So perhaps there's some restructuring/tightening-up going on as a result of this sale? Speculating...
