Hey all, new to the forums here. I joined last summer when I purchased my first Tacoma, but I never posted. I've had a lot of vehicles and have always been mainly a Chevy truck fan. My last Silverado burned me on GM though, maybe for life. Too many problems. The AFM issues caused me to need new rings and pistons, thankfully covered by the powertrain warranty. But that was enough for me.

Eventually, I got my first Toyota truck, a CPO 2012 DCSB TRD Off Road 2WD, which I purchased last summer. I immediately started noticing some issues with it though, which led me to believe it had been wrecked. I would hear a grinding type noise coming from the front passenger side tire while driving...the front passenger window would pop at times when putting it up. The front passenger side bumper did not line up correctly, and screws on the underside of the bumper weren't in designated holes or were just screwed into the bumper itself...there was also a crimped/buckled piece of metal underneath, near the fender apron assembly on the passenger side. Carfax didn't show any wrecks, but the damage was there. I even had a local body shop verify that repairs had been done. (The guy at the shop noticed where some painting and welding had been done.) I tried to ignore it and just remain happy, but my OCD kept bothering me. The final straw for me was when the front passenger tire started wearing unevenly. I decided it was time to let it go, but I didn't want this experience to ruin all Tacomas for me. I traded it last month on a CPO 2014 Silver Sky DCSB TRD Sport 2WD, and I could not be happier with the truck! Well, maybe if it had the auto-dimming mirror, lol, but I love it!!

I am hooked on Tacomas now! (I just wish Carfax was more accurate. :()

Awesome! Glad you got into a good Taco, sucks when you can't verify it's history but unfortunately Carfax and the like can only document 'documented' work...if it was done under the table to avoid insurance then there's no real way to check on it.

Welcome to TW! Carfax will only show what has been intentionally reported by either the owner, city/state, or businesses (service records, title alterations and change of ownership/registrations, reputable body shops, insurance claims). This explains why someone can pay someone out-of-pocket to fix body damage to avoid filing an insurance claim, then that repair isn't reported so the CarFax remains "clean".
In any event, you've lived and learned and got yourself a better Tacoma so congrats and enjoy it!

Thanks all! I failed to mention my '14 already had an Extang Solid Fold cover on the bed and Toyo Open Country AT's. I also got the salesman at the dealer (whom I've bought from before) to move my predator bars from my '12 to my '14! I came out on top, I think! Here's a pic of my 'new' '14:
