exhaust questions!!!!!!

ok yal. ive been pretty open and all throughout my taco moding process and got ALLLLLLLLLL kinds of great feedback from EVERYONE on here. had all kinds of arguements and so forth. lol. now my next mod is kinda one ive never fooled with b4 so all help is def. appreciated. im a 4x4 guy and i can do all the lockers winches bumpers and crap all day but my exhaust ive never messed with. i have a few wants but mainly i just dont know. i DEFINATELY dont want a rice burner sound. but id like a good quality sound with the least amount of money. my questions are pretty basic.

Would it be worth it for me to get headers??

with all the theft going around what can i do to get rid of my cats! lol some folks say u can get a Y-pipe? what does that sound like and what price?

would it be better for me to just get a muffler such as flowmaster or magnaflow or a WHOLE exhaust system??????

Also whats gonna help/hurt my gas mileage?????

okay, well i have some suggestions. first off you want an exhaust thats got some noise rumble not alot but enough to let people know ur accelerating right? So get a Jardine catback from URD. Ive already got one a few days ago it sounds awesome. As for headers, Doug thorley makes some good ones. Stay away from JBA they are crapola. Anyway. if you want to check out what they sound like, youtube that and see what you get.http://youtube.com will have jardine catback for tacoma AS for the y pipe a buddy of mine has them. my suggestion is shop around. Gas mileage might go up anywhere from 3-5 max. horsepower bout the same 3-5 max. hard to get much performance from bolt on

 

Here are two clips of my setup: TruFlow CAI, JBA Headers, URD Y-pipe, Borla Cat Back. Not ricey IMO, more like throaty, with good pulsating exh tone. JBA Headers hang in there if you weld them to the cats correctly, thats where most have the exh leak issues. Y-pipe intensified the scavenging of the headers at 2500 rpm & up. As far as feul consumption, well just dont drive like I did in these clips and you can avg the same MPG as most others.

What was the speed limit on that sign that you passed?

It was 45, thats why I slowed down shortly after, pretty much did a quick 0-60. Would of went faster but was afraid to really take off, too much attention w/the exh and all.

Thanks... I would think it would just be a little louder than yours. With a manual, going through the gears is fun but I definately dont want to thrash my truck, so those shifts were at around 4500-5000 rpm.

 

it has a little different sound to it probably cuz of the resonators and CAI. yea i figured u weren't on WOT cuz that shit just screams when it happens

I wish I knew the answer to that question. But, looking at alot of similar setup's from a few different sites, there were Dyno's posting anywhere from 220 to 230HP, and thats at the wheel. Not sure if running 33's makes a diff or not, can tell you that if I had my stock wheel and tire set up, I would have smoked the tires in that first clip. But I would never give up my DC-1 Blacks

 

hell yea ull spin them. sometimes i spin too much off the line, gotta warm them up first before take off!

 

What are the advantages of changing the whole cat back rather than just the muffler? Im looking into flowmasters. Do you recommend i do the whole exhaust system rather than just the muffler? How long does it take to install each of the 2 as well? Is it bolt on?

 

usually people get the cat bacl to go 3 inch piping or to get the stainless steel. the stock piping is pretty good though, just depends what u want. some also want duals so they go that route

A Catback system should take no more than couple hours with the right tools.

A muffler mite require you to have a shop cut out the stock one and weld on the aftermarket one of your choice.

The stock set up is good enough. If you want a better sound go muffler route. If you want a better sound, SSP, w/mandrel bends that should last as long as your truck does, then you should go Cat back. They range about 350-400 dollars.
