I don't think they need to drive it to confirm. Why wouldn't they trust you for one and, Toyota pays for their time to install.

    Woot!

The transmission issue is so well known that when I posted about selling my Miata on Miata.net and mentioned that I bought a 3rd gen Tacoma, someone THERE posted back about how they heard the transmission shifted wonky and how that made people not want to buy them.

I was recently thinking that the transmission is finally shifting like I want and the Prius like throttle response has gotten much better. I assume that is from 8000+ miles of adapting to me going "Go. Go now. GO NOW DAMMIT!". It's a slow learner and I'm not looking forward to losing that in the reflash. However, the specific issues mentioned in the TSB do still affect me and are more obvious now that I have less to complain about. I'd like them gone.

I can't wait for feedback. I won't be one of the early ones.

Take notice that the procedure for the TSB doesnt mention anything about having the dealership technician check the transmission fluid before he performs the tsb .
Checking the fluid level should be one of the very first things you do during any transmission work / calibration .
Regardless , enough of you guys complained and Toyota listened :bananadance:

Apparently the TSB was released yesterday (14 July 16). Seems to have created quite a stir. A thread with a scan of the TSB is stickied.

For the last few months I have been stating that the delayed engagement and associated issues are not related to low fluid. Fingers crossed, the TSB fixed them, further indicating that the low fluid is not related. What is your concern with the transmission being 5%-10% low (0.5Q - 1Q out of 10Q)? I assume that in your experience this can have an impact on the overall longevity of the transmission?

If a transmission is low enough on fluid that it shifts funny, has delays, flares, etc., I would fully agree that damage can be done. But in our case, the drivability issues don't seem to be related to the fluid level. If the transmission programming from the factory had been better from the start, nobody would ever have know that our transmissions are filled slightly below the mean specified volume.

This has been discussed many times that even a small amount (half a quart) can make a difference to the transmission and the way it performs. Gearcruncher has explained it until his fingers are probably numb from typing about it. I also have posted articles in other threads with discussion on how just a small amount of fluid makes a difference and can impact the lifespan of the auto transmission.

I guess what I am trying to politely say is that on the Gen 3 Tacoma 1/2 a quart does not affect the performance of our transmissions, and zero evidence has been provided that 1/2 a quart impacts the life of our transmissions.
