Currently have a 1998 TRD SR5 MT 4x4 and been looking at the 2016 Tacoma's. I bought it new with 9 miles on it and currently racked up 260K+ miles. Never had a problem. EVER. I've been one of those spoiled Tacoma owners that say "its been the best damn truck I've ever owned" But it's time for a new truck.
My perfect new Tacoma would be a DCLB OR MT but that unicorn doesn't exist. So I'm looking for some input on what I need..ya I get it, you don't know me. My truck is more than a grocery go getter, mall crawler. I deer hunt, elk hunt, fly fish, pull a fishing rafts, and go get all the "stuff" from Craig's list my wife buys and has a desire to refinish. I also help friends move. I don't like that. I guess I do go get a lot of groceries too... WHAT WOULD YOU GET?
Any chance 2017 will have a DCLB OR MT? I'm also looking at the Tundra's too. I would get a access cab for for the full bed so did I just answer my question?

Elk Hunting...my taco is on the left.

I too have been wanting a DCLB OR MT. But people have been asking for it since the 2nd Gen Tacoma's were released in 2005. And they still haven't released them. I'm thinking Toyota doesn't feel like investing in designing drive components since it would require different parts then whats available now due to a having a longer wheel base. As much as I wanted the LB, I'll have to settle for a DCSB OR MT.

I personally wouldn't get a DCLB just because of the longer wheelbase and I like how maneuverable the SB is, especially here in CO with how a lot of our trails are. I personally don't like driving offroad with a MT but i'm not you ;) Do you have a trailer of sorts for the bigger things you haul?

    all tore up already
just picked up an AT loaner while my MT is in the shop. thought everyone was silly complaining about power and trans with the auto. i dont think they are silly anymore. but my truck is in the shop for a creaky clutch pedal so the MT isnt perfect either

I think the DCLB's look way better than the stubby DCSB. The short bed looks weird because they lob off that extra foot of bed and the body lines/creases abruptly run into the cab. An extra foot of bed is nice but man, does the manual drive SO much better with that bigger rear-end. Feels like a real truck and not a neutered minivan.

I wasn't aware the DCLB MT had never made it into the 2nd Generations. I'm guessing it won't make it into the 3rd Generations very soon.

I have access to a trailer but it has a raft on it most of the time so not really a contender.

You got some insider information on the manual? How long do I need to wait?

It's going to take a lot more than a little grease to fix the auto trans/engine combo. Apparently the auto guys have a TSB now, so we'll see what they say after all their woes "disappear."

Just mean you should find a manual. They will not build a DCLB manual but find one in DCSB or aclb.

    Mostly stuff I built.
I 100% agree with the Desert Rat wait for the manual. I have driven both auto and manual trucks (both broken in for several thousand miles) and there is no way I would have been happy if I had gotten the auto.

I'm planning on buying next year so a 2017 model. My current Tacoma is having all kinds of issues. I need a clutch, valve cover gaskets, intermittent starting (I got a starter rebuild kit on order), crazy shimmy when driving (hope its just unbalanced tires), and new tires and alignment. I recently installed new 5100's, rotors, and brake pads. Seriously the truck has been a tank for me, but now requires a lot of work just to get me to next year.
