x2 on the sliders and skids. Sliders protect the rocker panel (PITA to repair) skids protect your under belly. If you're getting bumpers anyways who cares if they get messed up? Just my $0.02

I'm curious as to what sets 1998-2000 models apart from their older and newer siblings (other than that's what you just happen to own) ?

Grille, interior components, longer frame horns, some rear brake line differences. Some minor small stuff, only big one is the fucking frame horns if you plan on putting a bumper on

I would have done 16" wheels if these tires would have been 16" but I'll take a good deal to be able to afford new 15" wheels sooner.

Sliders do sound necessary. I rather not have to find a new bed or have to bondo and re-paint. Skids are a good idea but I may wait on these. With the upcoming trip, we will be riding alone so recovery may be the next best option.

Has anyone mounted a winch on a stock bumper for temporary use until ready for aftermarket bumper?

Just building a camaraderie amongst the people who are figuring out all the best aspects of our particular trucks. No problem with the newer models, just trying to narrow down the details to these years.

@BYJOSHCOOK has named a few differences that most only figure out once they are waist deep into a build project. It helps to have as much info on your particular truck before you start pulling it apart and trying to put it back together.

The main plus for me, is MANUAL HUBS (not available beginning in 2001).
Also, longer rear springs (more flex) than 95-97.

Main disadvantage is no double cabs (started in 2001)

I like to call them frame nipples :D thru stick through my bumper lol

You can see them here, of course this is before I've taken off the crumple zone things so you can make it a little shorter.

I think 2001 is when they started getting that electronic 4wd button on the shifter as well.

Thanks! I've got the rancho quicklift up front, but now I'm leaning towards the 881 coils and bilstein 5100s to bring the front end up a little more to level it out. For the rear I have 1.5 inch blocks. I had an aal installed originally, but couldn't deal with the stiffness.
