What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

question, from not left field, from the parking lot across the street. can you park a boat with the bow pointed down hill? so the tongue would be lower then the aft end of the boat. not worried about chocks or boat moving, just worried bout the boats, fuel/liquids, is it possible?

I thought 96 came black gauges? I wonder if PO did a 01-04 swap. My 99 was black, my 03 is white.

 

Your stock gauges should be black

 

Wonder if toyota had both black and white gauges. Cause my 2000 tacoma had white and my current tacoma which is a 2001 has black gauges

 

That is a conundrum. I always thought the 95-00 were black and 01-94 white

 

95-97 was forsure.

 

Yes, depending on model. (base, SR5 etc)

It was a TRD sr5 prerunner

 

I believe it was available starting with 98 limited trucks

I am about to swap out the front t-case seal. It is the oil seal where the front driveshaft comes out of the case. Looking for insights or any feedback from anyone who has tackled this job.

 

I did it, followed this guide: And my post from when I did it. Hardest part is unstaking the nut. Like he said, the FSM says the nut is not reusable so I got a new one and the new seal. I also got the inner seal but did not replace it because it looked fine. After I unstaked the nut most of the way I used the impact to break it loose the rest of the way.

Thanks, I've read @BigFishAllDay 's write up on TR4.org. I am curious what did you do to keep the stake nut from rotating while you tried to remove it? Did you do what he did in step 8.

Also, I am confused about the seals. You mention there are two, he only mentions one seal and when I got the parts fromToyota, they only mentioned one seal. Toyota said the part number is the same one he used on his 4Runner.

I did. I used the bolts/breaker bar method to hold it in place but like I said I think I used an impact to help break it loose too so I didn't need to hold it as hard as he did most likely. There are two seals, inner and outer, inner being the one between the companion flange and t-case and the outer being in the companion flange itself.

His second post shows the close up of it. You see it inside in the middle of the companion flange.

Yeah mine is not stock. It's white and it lets no light through, pain in the ass. I bought some brightnightled led's for the gauges and it's bright as hell. I either want to find a face or I'm thinkin I might just buy the green led's since my truck has a green and black scheme goin.

 

You're running the AP Expos, correct? How do you like the Timbrens?
