Have an appointment in 1 hour and the tech said it would take about an hour and a half. I'll post afterward.

Im the same way.. I had a shifting flare from 3rd to 4th too. And it appears to be gone or extremely minimal now. Wanting to wait a week or so before i specifically say it fixed it. I had the flare happened twice day everyday at work on the same hill and today it didnt... Fingers crossed.

I noticed what feels like a slipping or attempts at shifting when I'm turning and pulling out from a stop sign into traffic. Haven't had the ATF check and now all this talk makes me get worried.

You would know the feeling if you were experiencing it. Flare is the perfect word to describe it. Kind of feels like the gear is slipping upwards and then back down. Odd feeling but as I said, I knew what people were talking about immediately since I am having it too.

Someone mentioned improvement on down shifting when coming to a stop after the flash. Anyone else notice an improvement? My biggest complaint with the truck is that I have to let off the gas coming to a stop so I don't feel like I'm gonna go through the windshield when the truck downshifts. My appointment is on Tuesday but I'm eager to know.

Just got back from the dealer...
Definitely an improvement...doesn't feel like I'm fighting it anymore.
I've been driving around in S5 since November; I think D is finally usable.
I'll reserve final judgement after 1,000 or so miles.

Yep, it feels like slipping. You'll get a jump in RPM but loss in power as it shifts. 2-3 flare was a huge issue for the 5r55e ford auto trans. You can probably find a video on YouTube of it to see what the RPM's do.

my truck is in the shop right now. I printed the TSB (thanks for posting it!), verified my VIN, and brought her into the dealership. They initially couldn't find it, but then the service manager spoke directly to the shop foreman. They said it can and will be done by later this afternoon.

I'll report back first hand experience. *crosses fingers*

are you driving in ECT? I have never experienced hard down shifting upon coasting or braking.

The absolute easiest way to describe it is of you were in a manual and changed gears without letting off the accelerator. As it leaves 3rd gear, rpms jump up a few hundred rpms and then it engages in 4th.

What speed does it happen at? I have a manual transmission but there is a point in 2nd gear (14 mph maybe?) Where if I have my foot off the gas and I'm slowing down it will hit that 14 mph point and lunge me forward, and the compression won't be slowing me down as hard. My "rate" of braking will decrease so to speak. It's odd.

Just got back from the dealership. They fixed my warped drums and did the Transmission TSB. Noticeable differences with both fixes. With the drums fixed I'm not longer experiencing shuttering when coming to a stop. With the Transmission flash, I don't seem to be slamming into gear when I start to brake and then hit the gas. Also didn't notice any surging, but I'll hold judgment until I drive the truck more.
