Root it, upload a different kernel, remove the firmware/programs for cell/3g/4g and anything else that is cell retailed.

Load a custom rom - Liquidsmooth is a good one for that.
Go into apps and stop any services/apps that are not used or will ever be used again.
Tweak kernel power settings for max battery life and only to preform when mp3 player is running (or pandora/googleplay music if you plan on still streaming wifi radio)
Install a battery saver that works with above kernel to further tweak battery performance.

or just put it into airplane mode which works pretty good as well and is the easy way to do it.


Each device is different, my wife S3 gets a few weeks off a battery charge depending on use. My Samsung Tab Pro 10.1 (which is heavily modified) gets 6-8 months without a charge just sitting in standby due to larger battery size.

 

I think I could handle that, just gotta do some further investigation. Will be a good project for me
