Thanks, but I've got 2 more questions 1) What does it mean when it says I need a 1/8" spacer and 2) Will these new gears bring me back to stock gas mileage and power?

for the prerunner, all u need to get is the rear gears. 4x4 have to get front as well so that they match

I researched this for a little while. Basically my conclusion was that the amount of fuel consumption I would save would not be worth an avg. 1000-1500 parts & labor gear swap. Plus I only have 33's, and plenty Taco owners state that the 4.0 has enough power to push these tires, and I believe it.

    Heres the breakdown:

    Gears: front = 2wd 160-300, 4wd 350-650
Master rebuild kits: ??? sugested by some shops
Installation: WTF, 4Wheel parts quoted me 1800-2200 Parts & Labor for Precision gear. they said the IFS was a SOB to deal with. Whatever.

Anyway, you get my point. This has to be done professionaly, not a DIY job. Need special tools and all.

I would wait til my gears wore out a bit, and put that money to better use.

But if you need now call J.T. Few guys on Custom Taco's are happy with these gears and they recently released the 4.56 gears for 05+. They should be able to give you more of the info you need.

Extended Differential Breather, ABS on/off, 6000k LEDs from CSJumper, heads/fogs, ScanguageII, Devil horns, Devil horns on third brake light, Mounted 60" Highlift, Mounted Tool Box, Wet Okole Front/Rear Seat Covers, TW sticker, Midland Handheld CB,Painted engine cover, Revenge Fab Sliders, ARE Topper, Weather tech Floorliners, Camper shell, ultimate headlight upgrade. URD -3° exhaust cam gears, .5" XTP Intake spacer. Custom dents.
1.)The spacer is becuase you are changing gears, and the set you want are either smaller or larger in physical size.Your carrier can only fit certain gears.I am not sure about our tacomas but I'll use what I know. You have stages 1-3 in carriers and each stage can only handle said amount of gears for instance in my chevelle my 12 bolt is a stage 2 and can only fit gears 2.73-3.55 but if I install the spacer I could put 3.73 however their may be a problem with the fit. You will have to research to see what carrier will be needed for you to put the gears you need.
2.) This one is tricky. It will depend on your tires and your gear. You will need to know how tall your factory tire is in inches say 30.6 times the exhisting gears you have call it 3.73 eauals 114.13 divide that by you new tire height say 35" =3.26 so your truck now drives like you have a 3.26 rear gear. Now to figure what you need to install to get back to the same excelleration as before you just take the factory tire and multipy it times the gear options you want to install and then divide that by your new tire height. For Example my truck
    Factory tire 30.6" (FT)
    Factory gear 3.73 (FG)
    New tire 33" (NT)
    New gear 4.00 (NG)

FT times FG divided by NT
    30.6 x 3.73/33=3.45

If you have more questions just ask or send me your factory specs and I can do it for you.

I don't really understand that, but I have a 6 inch Procomp lift with 35 inch tires so what exactly do I need.

And where do you guys see that those gears won't fit on my truck?

In my truck magazine the price for gears ranges from $130-$235.

Not 100% sure, but I was quoted for a master rebuild kit. Guess some parts get worned out, so you need to replace when swaping gears. But hey, this is not your 1 part simple install type deal. You really need to do your homework, and search for a reputible a shop that is prefferably knowledgable with toyota's, to do this install.

    Good luck with your search.

You will need to press the pinion gear into the rear and install the bearings. Not only that but if you do it yourself you will need some white or yellow paint to mark your gears and how they contact one another. Its a big job and usually more expensive to get a shop to do it than to purchase the parts. If done wrong you will have uneven wear and helluva humming or whining noise. With the 4.56 gears your truck will act like it has a 3.95 gear, that is if your factory tire is 30.6 and your factory gear is 3.73. When you order I would do it over the phone so you can ask all the questions and they can tell you whats up.
