For sure defective. I would try another dealer/service dept.

    WTG!

Get it fixed on their dime, you have 2yr-24k bumper to bumper, after that it's on your dime and it will cost you a gold dime
    Hope that helps!
    Cheers!

I have the same problem with the lose patch on both side. I also noticed about 6:00 small lump. I don't mind it, but i keep playing with it while driving. i may address the concern with the dealer soon.

My 2nd gen does this has from day one and it's still holding together fine. Just don't push on it and you won't hear it.

Seems like all Toyotas with a leather steering wheel are like this. I don't think I've seen one that isn't like that, a little loose behind 9 and 3 that is.

Funny, my steering wheel has the exact same problem. Truck has 800 miles on it but has been like that since day one. I just didn't notice it until I left the dealership. I actually dropped off the truck this morning to hopefully have it fixed/replaced. I will let you know what they say. My truck was also having an issue with driver side power window, smh.

It did haha. I got the new wheel and I'm happy now. Good luck getting yours sorted out.

Mine can be pressed on the right hand side to get the squish/sticky noise but I'm not going to consider it an issue.

This is somewhat "normal", but there are times when the adhesive sticks better. We deal with this issue when we design steering wheels here. Have to account for leather or vinyl wrapping on certain parts due to negative or undercut surfaces not allowing glues to adhere well. If the OP got a new wheel, congrats.

Mine has a little bit of air gap, but no tacky sound and within "acceptable" tolerances for me. Everyone is different. The leather hides are of a natural material and have inconsistent stretch rates vs. synthetics. I'm sure it was "tight" when it came out of the factory.

I had an area like that on a couple of my Subaru's and I think there is a small amount of squish on my Taco but I don't find it to be something to complain about since it's kind of nature of the beast being in the negative space... I also tend to like to push on it while driving or sitting in traffic.

After taking it in and having a service manager tell me I was "holding the steering wheel wrong" and that the wheel is "not defective", I told them to hop into another Tacoma on the lot see if the steering wheel had the same air gap/bubble. Sure enough, the first wheel they felt was fine so they are swapping it out. Took a lot of complaining and talking to 5 different people to make it happen though. And they care so little about the issue that they are putting my defective wheel into a new truck on the lot.

I suspect 99% of their customers wouldn't care.

If that's the case, I feel sorry for the other 99% that accept defective products as their norm.
