    Differences between 2013 vs 2014:
2013 was the last year of the outside real temp/compass in the and rear view camera in the rear view mirror.
2014 lost the outside temp and compass. Instead it gets a "local" temp from the nearest city broadcasting HD radio in the head unit, which is not accurate and does not work if there is no HD radio signal. Rear view camera is moved to the larger head unit display. Some like the bigger image, others don't like looking at the dash when backing up as you should be looking in your mirrors.

Scarcely sounds like improvements, just changes and not necessarily good ones. Thanks for calling those out.

    Buy a new one.
If you're willing to fork out 25k on a used truck just chip in a couple grand and buy new and own it from day one!

As a rule, I buy low mileage three year old high quality cars that are coming off lease. The depreciation is out of them and they had to be well maintained and kept at or below the agreed upon mileage or the leasing entity lost money. Most people leasing nice cars, Mercedes, Audi's etc. understand that and take care of their vehicles. Example: 2013 Mercedes ML350 with 20k miles that I got for my wife last November.

These trucks are a bit different, and the formula above is more difficult to apply.

Depreciation on these trucks is minimal. They have about the best resale value on the matket. Example, I paid about $32k for mine brand new in 2013. It now has 50k miles and the kbb is still over $28k.

And that is the point...... they really hold their value. Is the Mr. Rogers thing aimed specifically at me, or is that just your sense of humor?

I was just saying about depreciation because like what ausfarht said. its worth buying new over used because of the price. I originally was going to buy used, but it was better to buy new because of the price. In your case it may be more difficult, given the 3rd gens are out and there probably arent many, if any new 2nd gens left.

You are right. I just have this aversion to buying new. You take it in the shorts one way or the other. Maybe I just need to look at this differently. Thanks for your input.

    Too few to list.
Why just 2013-2014? 2015 is the same and lots of used pre-runner long beds out there to choose from. It's the 4x4 that can be hard to find. 2012-2015 has the smog pumps which somebody already warned you about. It seems like it's more prevalent issues on 2012 but those years can be affected as well. My 2015 had the air pump replaced under warranty at 7,800 miles and the pump list price is just under $800. As far as interior comfort, I find that the TRD seats are softer than the SR5 seats. I have not had my butt on a TSS for a long period of time to determine their comfort. Could be the same as TRD though. As for buying used, go for it. The 2nd gens have proven themselves to be reliable trucks. The only thing about buying used is that the trucks hold their value significantly well. When I bought my 2015, I got it for a few hundred over invoice and now I see that the used 2015 with a lot more miles are going for the same price if not more than what I've paid for it.

I agree with the TRD seats. I find them way more comfortable than the non TRD.

Something else to consider. The automatic tranny in these trucks are bulletproof. They have some occasional hard shifts, but last forever. The 6 speed manuals have had some issues. Clutch pedal squeaks, noisy and premature worn bearings. Ive had both, and auto is the way to go.

Certain vehicles, Wranglers and Tacoma's in particular don't fit the standard depreciation model. Really any truck doesn't. I try to decide how long I plan to keep a vehicle and about how many miles I'm comfortable with. Say 15 years old or 200,000 miles. I then price new and used vehicles and calculate how much it is going to cost me per year and per mile to drive it.

Lets say I can buy new for $30K. That works out to $2000/year or 15 cents per mile. If I buy a 5 year old truck with 65,000 miles on it I have to get it under $20K just to break even. You can do that quite often with most cars. But finding any truck, especially Tacoma's selling used at those prices is hard to do. Deals are out there, but you have to work for them. With most of these you come out better to just buy new. Most of the time.
