I recently shipped my supercharger with ups and paid for 3000 dollars insurance. The company I sent it too reported that one of the tabs was snapped off and laying in the box. I just filed a claim and told them it was NOT repairable. Is ups going to keep my sc now?! I don't want them to just say it's ok to weld the tab back on! Maybe I should have said it is repairable but needs a new housing??

When ups does a claim it can take up to 4 weeks or longer and sometimes another 2 weeks to get the dam check. Just because you insured it for 3000
does not mean they will pay out 3000 dollars. They will not replace a used item with a new item.
They will have to inspect the item, make sure it was packed correctly, if for any reason they can claim it was packed incorrtly they will try and get out of any claim if possible. Yes, most the time they keep the item. You have to call them every day to stay on top of them to get this claim done even if it's just for
a repair, I would tell them the item can be repaired if it can be and get a quote for that so that can be filed with info with the claim. They are more likely to give repair money than replace it, but find out how much it will cost to repair the unit and file for that amount.
Ups does not like to pay out claims and comes up with any excuse to get out of it. If you did t use double wall boxes, that by its self would be a way out. I ship will ups with my Business and it's hard to get a claim to go through and you fight the whole way. If it was double boxed and no damage to the box
you will not get a cent. There has to be obvious damage to the box and should not be taken out of the box before ups inspects it

I used two double walled box. I'm worried the company that I sent it to didn't keep the box!!! It can be repaired with a weld for a hundred or so but that's not factory and that's not the same! Then the paint will be off too! I got a quote to replace the housing and it was 3200

I hate to say this but if ups does not inspect the box and packing used for shipping and see if the box was damaged and how the part was broken, I serious doubt they will pay anything out.
All ups claims HAVE to be inspected by the ups inspector in the damaged box. A lot of times the item is picked up
and sent to ups claims department for inspection. If there's no box, no packing supplies, nothing
for them to look at except a damaged part, guaranteed they will not give you any claim money.
You need to call ups claims ASAP to find out your next step and try for repair money
Painting it is the least of your problems as that only takes 15 minutes and pro ally
needs a new paint job anyway

image.jpg image.jpg Yes, see if they have the 2 boxes and all packing and bubble wrap. If you filed a claim they would asked
for the address and told you they would be sending out a ups instector to inspect the box. You would have to give all the shipping info to get a claim started.
Getting money from ups will be a job, no walk in the park, good luck
Definitely frustrating, just try to get the thing fixed and be done with the situation so that you can enjoy the supercharger on your truck looking at this is something of the past, "shit happens"

Once you have had a supercharged Tacoma motor, you know you would NEVER be happy without a charged engine again.

I washed down the charger with brake cleaner and extra fine sand paper to scuff up the paint.
Used an engine grade paint semigloss black for the heat, put 3 coats on.

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
if you valued it at 3k, and UPS admits fault, that's all youd get, and they would keep the supercharger.

I think you'd be better off just getting it repaired, no lost time to ups inspection, and if you didn't pack it like a 3k item ups will deny and you'll be out another week atleast before you get it back, probably in worse shape because the company you sent it to must repack it, the driver has to pick up, and the package has to ship to the closest building with an inspector in it. I'd be positive that I packed that box for a 3k object if I filed a claim. Like wrapped in bubble wrap, boxed, and that box placed in styrofoam inside another box. That's what ups will say you needed.
Not trying to be harsh, just have 20+ years experience.
It also matters where you shipped it from, like if you used the ups counter or a ups store, then you have a better case. If you used your own or your business account it will be tough unless you packed like I described.

I did actually ship it from a ups store. I really don't want them to keep it since my upgraded pulley is on it ! I can't even get ahold of the company so I have NO clue what's going on!! If ups doesn't repair it then I want a refund on the shipping charges.

Now this is the way it use to work, haven't been around for 5 years, but if ups store or counter accepts package, they are accepting your packaging also, and this usually means they accept fault.

Because you're no expert, you took it to the experts and they accepted it, that's your statement to ups.

It's still a catch 22. Best outcome in my eyes would be company takes quality pics of packaging and supercharger damage, you send those pics to whomever is in charge of your case, and you spell out what you want, possibly repair and refinish, or selling it to ups for $3000. If repair cost is very high they'll just buy it from you. Good luck!

i told them it wasnt repairable so I will probably have to call back. Hopefully they have t take. It yet! The repair (weld) will probably be 1-200 but then it should be painted properly too

How well do you trust the shop that recieved it? Is it possible that they broke it and are trying to place blame elsewhere?

So after thinking more about it and reading the other posts I'm pretty sure ups will not give you the claim. They will say it's packed incorrectly, For a item like this valued at 3000 and as heavy as it is, you can't just wrap it in bubble wrap. That doesn't work.
The correct way to ship this item would have been foam that can handle the weigh or a special box made for the charger.
Again the bubble wrap will and can just pop under the weight of the charger. As I said when I shipped mine, I used a 3" foam padding that I wrapped around it 3 or 4 times. So I had atleast 6" of foam after
it was compressed all around the charger for protection.
How was it you were given an estimate to replace the housing for 3000 when
a whole new complete unit is 2999 from LLC.
Just get it repaired For 100 or so and be done with it. No way will they give you
a new unit, wishful thinking, or roll the dice with odds against you and have the
truck down for 4 weeks or so

The reason why is the new unit is not a TRD, and I need a TRD because I live in California. Yeah I just want it repaired so I can get it back now. Almost been a mo th of no driving and I'm over it

HAAA, ok I see, anyway they wouldnt give you a new one for a broken bolt or tab,
there not dumb, they will just come back and say incorrect packing. This has happened to me plenty of times
even when I packed it correctly. You need to paint anyway and no one will
notice the repair once painted except for you and the charger is under the hood and no one sees it anyway and a repaired tab does not effect the performance.
