What would be the main culprit for my A/C clicking on and off and stops blowing cold while sitting still? I just put in a brand new compressor and charged it. Does anyone have any idea what causes this?

Are you sure you did not overfill the system??

Without gauges on anything will be just a guess.

Hi/ Low pressure switch having issues

Blockage in the system causing high pressure spikes

Under/over filled would be my guess followed by a worn compressor clutch, but you said you replaced the compressor so I assume the clutch is new.

so... you just put in a compressor and charged it ...... i can think of a few reasons why its doing that...
    1 not enough oil,
    2 not enough freon,
    3 too much outside air,
    4 too much water,
    5 dirty accumulator,
    6 bad switches,
    7 clogged expansion valve,
    8 clogged condenser,
    9 improperly flushed system,
    10 bad expansion valve,
    11 too much oil,
12 leaky system (which could be several different issues in it's own),
13 im sure i can go on

and thats not going into the controls, relays, or electrical side of things.

to eliminate some of your possible reasons. When we changed the compressor the new clutch, charged the system and im pretty sure we put oil in the system.
    Too much water?
    Too much outside air?

So, let me rephrase my question. When I replaced my compressor with the new clutch and refilled the system. It works fine going down the road like its supposed to. Only when I sit still in my truck with the a/c on, after about 5 mins or so does it start to act up.

ok lets get on the same page here.

you cant just replace stuff and fill with Freon, it wont work.

you have to replace the filter dryer AND pull a good vacuum for a minimum of 30 minutes to remove all the air and remaining moisture in the system. vaccum boils the moisture/water in the air in the system and sucks it out.

this is why we are saying too much water and outside air

so did you replace the filter dryer AND pull a vacuum with a "real" vacuum pump for 30 minutes before adding Freon? I say real vacuum pump because I have seen some "rubes" that hooked engine vacuum to it thinking that was ok but its not.

also you do NOT add oil to the system unless you had a main line burst while in operation or if you replace the condenser or evaporator and most of the time its only going to need an ounce at the most. too much oil can stop the system from functioning and working as it should.

Im not sure about replacing the dryer and filter. Ill see about it. How many cans of Freon does the system require?

BTW, nothing broke or leaked the system from what my dad told me. He said the clutch was bad and that's why my a/c wasn't working. So he replaced the whole compressor with the clutch. That's pretty much it.

the dryer is the filter, its a filter and dryer combined. its a long can and its mounted on the side of the condenser in front of your radiator. looking through the grill you can see it right there.

if the system had Freon in it and was working before the clutch went out then if the compressor was changed very quickly and the lines were left connected until the new compressor was installed and then swapped over to the new compressor within a few minutes so the system was only open to the air for a minute or less, then you might not need a new dryer but you still would have needed to pull a vacuum with a vacuum pump before refilling the system.

if that above scenario wasn't done just that way, then your system is full of air and you just mixed Freon with it and that's why its not working. if this is the case, then your dryer will now need to be replaced and then pull a 30 minute vacuum with a vacuum pump, and then refill with Freon and all should be good.

its been a while but I think 2-3 cans is all it takes to fill it up

Ill ask my dad and see. We prob going to have to change the dryer being that something that should be simple always screws up and takes 2-10x longer to do. Thanks man.
