I can't rember it's been a while.

 

My 295/70-17s went on Tuesday. Love them so far. And they look awesome. Good in heavy rain too.

 

Ryan wanted to open his back doors....silly boy!

 

I want a taller tire than that. Plus the 4 banger will be able to move the 255/80s better

Hmmm I thought the 70 was the sidewall height... And though it usually went up in half inch increments... I guess it has to do with the width too.

@Chux thanks for the input on the tires. I put in a call to a tire shop owner that my dad is hunting buddies with. Hopefully he can get me a better price than 204 a tire which is CHEAP AS HELL to begin with... If he can Ill probably be running them at Takeover... Is not then Ill get them right after takeover!

 

The-70 is a ratio, not an actual measurement.

I had a 48" x 96" sheet of 3/16" steel on horses. Went underneath to grab something, bumped the saw horse and it broke and collapsed and the sheet came down on my head and it Damn near knocked me out and trapped me underneath it.

Made progress since and got the ifs cut out, now it's time for a trip to Lowes and then some cutting and bending

The 70 describes the sidewall height, but it's a percentage of the width.

So if you have a 70 ratio on a 10" wide tire (255s), 70% of 10 is 7 inches...so a 7inch sidewall height.

If you have a 70 ratio on a 11.5" wide tire (295), 70% is a little over 8 inches.


So a 255/80/17 is 10" wide with an 8.03" sidewall. Double the sidewalls, add in the wheel rim size, and you have a ~ 33.1x10x17 tire.

With a 295/70/17, it's a ~33.3x11.5x17.

HOWEVER, tire manufacturers rarely have tires that measure out exactly to the metric size and it's more for a reference. For example, the 255/80/17 Coopers you're looking at are actually 32.8x10.2x17 according to their website.
