If you don't clearly list the price in the ad, I will immediately consider the seller to be an incompetent idiot not worthy of a dime of my money or a minute of my time.

Really no different than the Mercedes Benz TV commercial where the text/words on the screen says "starting at $29,999", but they're showing the $60,000 model with the hot chicks.

I'm sure that fast scrolling tiny text makes it legal.

It's advertising and I think the rules are quite grey in this area.

It's a business, man. What do you expect. When you go to the dealer for that advertised vehicle, they just say it's been sold and try to sell you another one. It's all about getting foot traffic, and if they just get a small percentage of buyers from that foot traffic, they've succeeded.

They don't call it the stealership for no reason.

It's like the casino, they make it seem like you can win lots of money, but in essence they'll let you win a bit of money but then you'll always lose a lot more money.

This is why you hate dealerships? Who cares.

I see alot of times they list a truck as a base bowel when it is in fact a trd and they charge less because of it. They just simply Dont know

I hate dealerships for a lot more reasons than this... The old bait and switch just annoys the piss out out me.

Well I got my truck for a lot less because they didn't know what they had. It was listed as a just a base 4wd and it is a sport. Dealerships make mistakes both ways, although its usually more in their favor.

The true problem with dealers is the stupid a-holes who go in there and take it in the ass by paying too much and getting the unnecessary extra options from the finance department. The market is dictated by the cash in our pockets. If that percentage of people would do a little research and remember that the salesperson/dealership is setup to get as much money out of them as possible, they would learn to negotiate a little better and/or use that as fuel to stand your ground a little more. I will only buy from small dealerships who sell their vehicles at or below bluebook value, that are less than a year old and are still under factory, 30k miles or less. You save a lot of money that way and usually those vehicles are just broke in by then. (Especially Taco's) I don't even like taking my truck to big dealerships for service, but I still feel they are going to have better mechanics and be held a little more accountable, unless you know a good mechanic personally, which I don't, I will continue to use them. Power to the people!

Copeland Toyota in Brockton MA has always done right by me. My wife bought 2-3 vehicles from them. I got my 10 single cab with 6600 miles for 17k 4 yrs ago. They gave me a reasonable number on my 06 Chevy Colorado as well. I'm sure they made money off me, let's face it they have to. Of course they tried the extended warranty thing..again, I get it they are a business. But they were truthful about the truck and I feel I got a fair deal.

We'd be surprised at how many times these are honest mistakes too. Used car dealerships handle so many different varieties of makes and models that it's easy to get things mixed up. Often times there's one person that handles of the ad work and mistakes are made. We're all human. :notsure:

Many of my relatives are car salesmen, not fond of a one of them! I mistakenly bought a car from a cousin at a speakership.... He screwed me!

I bought a use Pontiac Bonneville from him, it had no floor mats in it. When I asked where they were, he told me they took them out to clean them and forgot to put them back in. A week later he said that it didn't come with them and I'm out of luck! He also told me that any time I had warranty issues that I could use his car. When I asked him to use it on a Wednesday, he said man, any day but Wednesday! I then said good then, I can do it Tuesday...lol. I borrowed his car and smoked the tires going out of the lot and proceeded to beat the snot out of it all day!

I think it all depends on the person, really. First time I bought a new car I was 21. I got screwed on every aspect of the deal because I just didn't know better. Price, interest rate, trade in... they got me coming and going. I learned from it... sometimes we learn more from our failures.

Now I do a lot of research before I go in. I call, I search the internet, I ask other people, I request quotes, etc... if you go in armed with knowledge of the market, and the resilience to walk away if you don't think the deal is fair, you win. They will make money, or they won't sell you the car. Period.

A good business deal is when both people think it was fair.

    I have to disagree.

Salesmen have 30-40 different vehicles and packages to keep track of. Who gives a shit.

We have the luxury of knowing every package of one vehicle.

Hopefully, anyone shopping has researched what package they really want. If they have not, I think they are truly fair game for a salesman to take advantage of. We have all sorts of tools to help us get the best deal. There is no excuse for not using them. If you are not trying to save money, then you probably don't care about overpaying.

FWIW, my truck was advertised as a 2015 TRD PRO even though I knew it wasn't. The Dealership (A chevy dealer) basically just went with the carfax popped out for their description when you entered the VIN. When the vin# was ran, it came up as TRD Pro for some reason. I was able to get a great deal so it didn't bother me. I knew what I was buying and when negotiated we used the original sticker that was still in the truck that clearly noted it as a TRD OR.

    I do!

There are some dealers in some parts of the country that get in Sports and Off Roads and they add aftermarket stuff to make it "like a Pro" and even get new TRD Pro badges put on it.

Me personally, I think that should be illegal and dealers should be able to be held responsible for mistakes like that. A VIN search prior to posting used vehicles doesn't take but 2 minutes. So no honest mistakes on this should be occurring.
