What the hell's going on over here

That's it, I quit. I went out and bought a top notch locking pin for my hitch and had to return it for a different kind, a cheaper kind!!!!
Can Toyota ever get anything right???

Just kidding, not quitting. finally something didn't go smoothly. And it's no big deal. Got the wife to return it yesterday. She's awesome!

 

The one I used on my last 3 trucks wouldn't fit my Tacoma, oh well, got a new one.

 

Strange this came up today on TW. I put my (old) hitch and pin into my (new truck) receiver yesterday for the first time, but the pin was like 1/4" too short. It took me a while to even figure out what was going on because of the way my pin's lock is designed.

So what's the deal with that? Do I have too-bulky welds on my receiver, or is this normal? Any suggestions as to a locking pin that is long enough?

Not sure if this makes any sense, but what class hitch is on the Taco vs. the one you had before.
I haven´t researched this yet, so I am just throwing something out there, but a class 4 is a heavier duty hitch compared to say a class 2, so wouldn´t the heavier duty mean beefier structure? As I said, I don´t know this for sure, but in my head it makes sense, so a pin designed for a class 2 would not work in a class 4 receiver.

 

My 06 and 12 were the same way....found what I needed at Tractor Supply.

 

Well I used my original locking pin in: 1998 Chevy S-10 (class III), 2001 Ford Ranger (class III), 2007 Dodge Dakota (also class III, i think) and a 2011 Ford F-150 (class 4). So I'm thinking it's just Toyota's design. The diameter was perfect but it just lacked like a 1/4" of length, I just bought a different brand/style and it fit perfectly.

 

Same here also.I am thinking that the Toyota hitch has more play in also.Don't recall as much in the GM and Ford I had.

 

You'll have to buy a new one, just try the one you buy at the store "just in case" it won't fit either! We had to buy a much cheaper one with a cheaper material for the pin. I wanted the one I bought because it was rust proof!

The receiver tube is slightly thicker than tubes I had in the past, and my pin wouldnt fit. I had the pin turned on a lathe and took off about 1/16" and it fit fine.

 

I run this because our 5x8 makes the draw bar bounce around in the receiver and it makes a racket

I noticed this about hitch pins the other day. I needed a new one and was staring at what I thought were 2 identical pins at the store. One said it was $2 and the other $4. I thought they had hung some on the wrong peg until I saw the model #s were different. Upon closer inspection, the packaging revealed the more expensive one was 1/4" longer. I bought the cheaper one and it fit fine on my '14. The hitch neck must be thicker on the '16s.
