What is the difference between the dry chemical in an ABC extinguisher vs the dry chemical in a BC extinguisher? Halon is the best as far as being a clean extinguisher. C02 works also, but always much bigger extinguishers.

Ended up doing research. The purple K dry chem agent in a BC ext is non-corrosive, but still can be a bitch to clean up. And appaently Halon has been replaced by Halotron. I have been out of th firefighting biz for over 20 years. Shit has changed.

PKP is HIGHLY corrosive to electrical systems when mixed with water...

Halon is a great agent but when it gets to a certain temperature it is highly toxic to the human body... We have all these things on the Coast Guard boats...

I am also the damage control petty officer that maintains all of them... The halon system we have onboard is an installed system not portable.

The best extinguisher is actually AFFF. Aqueous film forming foam. Its whats used to fight any sort of Bravo fire. (Fuels oils and the like)

Not what I just read about PKP.But if it is true, then Halon or CO2 are the only safe options to not make a total mess. Any dry chem marine ext will cause an issue

Purple-K is normally non-toxic, but ingestion of large amount can cause alkalosis. In high temperatures it decomposes to carbon dioxide and potassium oxide, which is toxic and highly corrosive

Thats from a wiki article but Id say its pretty accurate from my knowledge on PKP

Well, then cheap dry chem for me, and let insurance pay for the damage. Or let it burn and get a new truck.
