    Very practical actually, haven't had an issue yet and in fact not clipping lower tree branches over the road with the tips is great. I recently drove from New Jersey to Maine with rods in the rack like that. Only difference was that they were my kayak rods which I cut the butts down to bout 6" so I added little bungees around the reel to guarantee they wouldn't pop out. Around town no need to bungee my beach poles, they don't even budge.

    The bar that the rod holders are mounted to is a handicap hand rail that usually goes in a bathroom. I just mounted the rod holders onto it and screwed it into my tool box. This is on my 99 currently but when I get a toolbox for me 16 I will mount them on it.

    I just put those rod sleeves on them and toss them in the bed. Diagonally for my baitcaster.

    Ordered one of these waiting on it to be ready hopefully this week its done here locally and it fits our trucks no drilling goes right on the rails mine would have the Marine Corps Emblem in the middle tho ;)
