Har and Mush... it's kind of the same response of the absorber doesn't give me scratches but I have a white or silver truck that makes it hard for me eyes to see the swirl and scratches...but it works well. The fact that you don't see them...can be because of poor vision or the way the color reflects back. Silver and White is easier to hide scratches. But to say the towels are good value...that's debatable. Black is the most difficult to keep clean and maintain from my experience. If you can keep black paint swirl/scratch free...then it'll work for rest of the other types of cars given proper technique is used to clean / buff the vehicle.

10 towels for $17...would love to see the outcome on black paint to prove it doesn't scratch. I'm sure your white or silver vehicles have plenty of scratches if you look carefully and at certain angles as well. It's like a Monet, good from far away, but up close...not so much.

It's fine you don't want to pay $100 for towels... many websites have MF towel (good quality) on sale... I just don't agree with the 1.70 towels being very good. The $3 to $8 towels works so much better. And you don't need 10 towels...you can get a way with just 6 towels if you really need. I can wipe down my whole truck with 3 towels... 2 towels at times depending on how dirty it is with waterless wash. If you can tell the more expensive MF towels are softer... that means if you wash you towels and dry them too dry...they are that much harder and easier to scratch your paint.

I looked at TRC creatures...it says 420gm, but then the weight is 365 GSM?

I use this it's 600 GSM. The gold is 380 GSM I use for glass. I like that TRC have cut edges... very handy and reduce chances of scratches.

By the way... I just noticed the Creatures are on sale for $1.75 each at Rag Company.com. That's 20 towels for $35 bucks.

I use the Gold Plush towels from AG for my drying towels (24"x36" or something like that- large). They're really nice. I assume they're just like your purple supremes, but a lower GSM.

About the detail towels, I agree with everything you're saying regarding quality. It's just a sliding scale of cost vs quality. To me it's just a question of balance. Somewhere on that sliding scale is a place for each person. Some will take 100 bucks and get 200 towels, some will get 20 towels.

I like having 50 towels on my shelf. And I use 2 or 3 after each time I wash my truck. When they're all used up I do a wash load. That's what works for me. And the creatures are a good value for me that works with my system.

I have a pyrite mica taco. Scratches show up very easily. I don't have that spider webbing like you often seen on black where the entire surface is swirled. But I do have some random scratches from poor wash/dry technique in the past. I can only see them with my swirl finder light. They don't show up when you just look at the trick from a couple feet away.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts. If you'd like to try a creature, PM me and I'll drop one in the mail! Ha just you- I can't send everyone one! They're not the best (the eagle is MUCH nicer). But they are nice for the money (no comparison whatsoever to the Costco's) and they allow me to have a stack of nice towels.

Oh, and Ace- I'll send you one too if you want!

Thanks for the generous offer. The TRC creature may be a typo and it probably is 420 gsm. The only thing about the heavier MF towel is that it allows for cushion as you apply pressure while wiping.. you shouldn't be applying too much pressure anyways, but it helps with the heavier towel. The other thing is that is suppose to absorb more.

I have a 5 gallon that I fill up with water. After I wash/wipe I rinse the dirt and other things trap ( I do one pass wipes). So when the towel is dirty, I pre wash all the dirt off and then I throw the dirty towels in the 5 gallon bucket. If left too long the water can get smelly. So I do small loads...can't leave the towel to dry up with dirt and make it harder to remove.

To regular folks...this seems a bit extreme and too much work, but it's just habits I develop after having a black roadster to a new BRZ (soft paint). The Taco has harder paint, but when I am careless I can still scratch my MGM paint. It's minor scratch that can be polished out... the truck has never been color corrected yet. The previous owner left the truck with dirt and then when I came to buy it...they washed it with water and a rag dragging all the dirt so it's got a lot of scratches. Wanting to learn to do this all myself I bought the equipment to do my own polishing. My truck is still pretty good except for a couple of spot that have scratches on the hood and the water stains on the roof. I'm sure I can get it all out ...just have to make time. But with the 1 year plus of owning this Taco... I've only had a scratch 3 spots I know of about 1/4 to 1/2in being careless...but light scratches.

So I do all this so next time I wash, I know my towels are clean and don't have any trap dirt or anything that can scratch the paint. I'm glad the TRC creatures work for you...just don't get Costco MF towels... or the absorbers ... I've had too much scratch/swirls from them.

I got too many towels now...so won't need any for a few years... Thanks again.

Been there done that. Those are great one use towels. There is a big difference in microfiber. I know it seems crazy what some of us are spending on supplies. I did same thing when I started...go to Walmart to get my supplies cause I am detailing. Now I never buy the first product from there. Cringe just thinking about it.

Nice review. I am good on towels. I have 12-15 Eagles plus getting another 12 of the TRC 1100 GSM towel...forgot name but they are amazing. Plus I just rescued another dozen that I got from Detailers Domain. Amazing what a dog brush can do for towels.

What kind of dog brush do you use (how do you use it)...doesn't damage the fibers removing the dirt? Do you run the brush in water? I usually just rub the towels together back and forth (with faucet running) doing a pre wash before I throw into a bucket of water for future wash. 1100 GSM looking interesting...tempted to get some now. I like the discounts and free shipping TRC has. Is it white like they show online?

I take my Chinchillas after I use them into the kitchen sink and fill the sink then rub them together and dunk them a few times, then I wring them out and hang them on the drying rack to dry. When they are dry I put them in a Walmart bag till I have enough micro fiber towels to wash in the washing machine. I then put them on the drying rack to dry.

Those are not good for cleaning/detailing vehicle paint. If you tried one of the better (Korean) MF, you can see... but glad you like white...it hides scratches well. Though does get dirty almost as fast as black vehicles.

White and Silver hide scratches the best . The video you linked shows these towels in the 300 GSM. The MF towels in this thread has been 400+. I use 600GSM, Ace uses 1100 GSM MF towels. I'm not saying you can't get away with 300GSM, but in the video it said the walmart brand was worse at absorbing water. Why don't you get one of the Korean fiber MF towels that are 400 to 1100 GSM towels and give it a try to see the difference.

Also Silver paint hides scratches even better than white I think. Coworker had a silver car that had wrecked sprinkler water stains and from 6 ft it looks great...walk up close wow...it was a mess.

Also I appreciate we can debate without getting upset... some threads folks just attack when they don't agree... I like threads like this where we can learn from each other and share.
