MicTuning switch/Lighting question

hey guys. I have a question?

I have rear lights wired up to a relay kit and a micTuning switch mounted inside. I have the dash 12v wired so it comes on with ignition; and its wired to come on full time. And the lights work great! The ignition lighting works great! The only thing that DOESNT work is the light (on the switch) that notes when the lights are actually ON (even when i turn them on!)

Now I thought that that light (below;circled) was supposed to be powered by the voltage that passes through from the battery.. Is it possible that the switch just took a shit?

 

Green wires are the cab illumination. They must be as shown in order to dim and be seen as all other dash illuminated switches. The left side wired as shown will illuminate when switch is actuated. (If you have that kind of switch, there's one with only 4 rear tabs)

 

I have just the four wires in the back

 

The single pole single throw switch you have only should illuminate with dash, not when actuated...

 

I have that same drawing in my hand. And is wired up exactly like that. Infavt its been working fine for the past six weeks. All of the sudden the top part stopped illuminating when the light is on

 

Quick question about this switch. What do you wire the "1 Green" line to? Is that wired to like your light bar or whatever accessory you are using the switch for?

 

You could as long as the "red 1 is the opposite of the Green one ()

 

So what does "source" refer to for the Green 1 then?

 

Battery...or parallel to an existing circuit (with an add-a-circuit, or spliced and soldered then a fuse)

 

Its probably a bad switch.

My MicTuning switches got installed and one didn't have the upper LED on when the light was on, like you're experiencing. The other was perfect. Returned the defective switch and got a replacement and it's perfect also.

 

X2 on the possibility of a bad switch. These are imported and very cheaply made. My switch works fine so far but the "dash lights on" backlighting does not dim with the rest of the dash lights. It might just be a led thing and there's not enough resistance to dim. It was working so at least you know you did it right.

 

Thanks guys. Im just using theory and the fact that it worked perfectly and nothing has changed. All of the sudden it just stopped working lol

 

Not dimming isn't really an indication of the quality of the switch, but of the LED and how the LED is wired.

That said, at $12, when they fail, buying another isn't an annoyance.

 

Not working after a few weeks is an indication of quality or if it never worked in the first place improper installation.
Beyond that I was just including my experience with these switches. And yes I have it wired correctly as the backlighting is wired to a dimmable 12v source.

 

It's a bad switch. I had one do the same thing; worked for a while and then the top light quit working when turned on. I replaced mine with an AOB switch instead and so far so good.

 

I called and they are sending me a new switch. Woot

 

Let me ask you 3rd gen guys. where are you tapping into illumination for the switch? all the wires behind the dash are so skinny, it makes me think they are solid core wires. I refuse to tap into any of them in fear of completely breaking the wire doing it.

 

are you wanting to (tap a wire)? or tap the fuse block via a Add-a-circuit? the latter would be your safest bet by far!

 

if someone could show me a diagram on how to do the add a circuit that would be awesome! The last car I wired was a 95 civic. (cant screw that up) but all this electronic stuff has me scared to touch much of anything in fear of screwing something really expensive up.

 

Take a picture of your underdash fuse block and post it up here! Id be glad to help
