Nah, the clutch is solid. It starts as the engine warms up, and when the rpms go up. I have tried in neutral and it whines. But the truck has 137k km. Just about 85k miles

Power steering fluid low? if its with clutch related one of the fingers on clutch could be warped and catching wind making a whistling sound... if its engine its best to narrow it down to a certain spot or component.

all fluids are good. I'm 100% certain the clutch has nothing to do with it. If you would just read some of my replies, it whines even in neutral.

Fluids can still be good on powersteering and bearings going out can cause the whine.

Yeah, that's my main concern. I am positive there is a bearing in one of the pulleys going. Could be any of them. Sounds like it is on the driver side, so either tensioner, or power steering is my conclusions so far.

Here's a good test performed using a simple long flat blade screwdriver or a stethoscope if you have one readily available. Take the end of the blade on the screwdriver and put it close to the pulleys in question. If you hear the noise amplifies through the handle of the screwdriver then you just found your bad bearing or pulley.

How about a clicking sound instead of a whine? I have this "ticking", almost like a cricket chirping, that is only really present when I'm coasting in gear. As soon as I touch the clutch pedal, even just slightly, the ticking/chirping ceases. Comes right back when I let off the clutch. Throwout bearing? :notsure:

    :threadjacked: :sorry:

I'm sorry to say it, but throwout bearing. Remove the transmission and replace what you need to and what you should while you are in there. The noise will receed.

OP - I recently had a similar "whine" and it was an idler pulley. Toyota replaced 2 of them (per their recommendation) as well as some plate under my extended warranty, even though only one of them was bad. Since they had it all apart, I also bought a new Serpentine belt....no labor charge for installation.

I have a fairly new serpentine belt, but most definitely need a new pulley. Thanks for the reassurance
