I currently own a 2016 subaru outback and am considering buying a 2016 tacoma as a second vehicle. Not sure if I should get the Limited or Off-Road version. I don't plan on taking it off road, but i live in Illinois and sometimes my neighborhood doesn't get snow plowed as often as i like during the winter months. Can i get away with the Limited's 4H/4L or do I really need the locking rear diffs and muti-terrain features of the Off-Road Tacoma to get through unplowed city streets? I plan on using the truck as a daily driver and will be letting my girlfriend drive the outback.

Any 4x4 model should work for you.

If you're not going off road, a limited with 4x4 should work just fine. If you think you will start off-roading because you buy the OR with all the goodies, go that route. Me, I like mud :D

Limited makes little to no sense value wise.

I bought the most expensive 2016 outback because i liked the interior refinements. I'm leaning towards the 2016 tacoma limited for the very same reasons.

A bone stock limited can hold its own.

I beg to differ. A clean Limited will hold more value purely because fewer exist. I also paid $36,900 + tax tag and title for mine. $1500 for an ARB and I'm good to go.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the locking diff on the OR model is not really that useful for snow driving?

I thought it was only good for 4Low at under 5mph and you don't really want to be turning much. Am I totally wrong?

It's nice to see a bone stock limited tacoma do some off-roading and towing at the same time. But I mainly buying the tacoma not to go off-roading but to make it easier to haul stuff i buy at home depot or lowes. Kinda impossible to put large plywood sheets in the outback.

Just get a nicely spec'd out SR5 and that's all you'll ever need. Absolutely no need for the Off-Road unless you just want to be part of the cool kids group that seems to think anything less than an OR isn't capable enough to hop a curb. If you don't need the OR and like the refinements of the Limited better, then get the Limited. Just don't think that the limited is an all show, no go truck. It's a VERY capable truck that will be more than adequate for your (and most people's) needs.

I went from a 2012 Outback to a '16 TRD Sport 4x4 last year. The Outback actually feels bigger on the inside compared to the Tacoma, and although it's subjective from one person to the next, the Outback was also a bit more comfortable to sit in, although I've done 1,200 mile trips just stopping for gas and a quick nap or two in the truck and I have no complaints. As much as I like the Tacoma I really do miss my Outback and also miss the excellent customer service from Subaru. Toyota's customer service if you're dealing with corporate is bottom of the barrel in comparison, so be prepared. Subaru is a much smaller company in comparison to Toyota and I just feel like they care about their customers more while Toyota seems to not give a rat's ass after you buy the product.

Get a TRD OR w/ Sunroof and heated seats, then swap leather into it. Best of both worlds.

I will be buying this at the dealership in Missouri on Wednesday. I love all the chrome accents on the Limited model.

A locker that isn't under warranty and will most likely void the warranty on the OEM rear diff once installed? What about MTS crawl control and superior off road suspension. Does the limited have the boosted brakes like the OR does?
