295/70/17 or 285/70/17

I need some opinions. I know I want a set of Toyo Open Country R/Ts, but which size should I get. Currently I'm running Nitto 265/60/17, with a MT set-up at 3" lift all around. For the front, I'm currently running Total Chaos UCAs and Racing Series LCAs, with King 2.5" RR coilovers. The rear is an All-Pro Expo leafs with 2.5" shocks. 75% change I'm going to do BAMF shock relocation kit with King 2.0"x12" shocks. With all that said, what size should I go with and why? Give me pros and cons guys.

 

What is the weight difference? 285s will usually require cutting/trimming, cutting off you cab mounts, welding new plates over the openings, hammering your pinch welds, cutting your inner fenders. 295s will only make all that worse, plus be even heavier and rob more power. I don't see much benefit for the 0.27" gain that you will get in ground clearance.

 

Thoughts?

 

I have spindles up front and expos in the rear and I think that the 285s look great! Debated 295s but like @crashnburn80 said, I couldn't justify the big jump in weight for the slight increase in diameter. And I feel like 295s would be a tight squeeze with a 3" lift, definitely would need a lot of trimming and CMC

 

Does the weight or anything bother you? Are you riding on 17" wheels and are those toyo tires?

This is true, but I'm looking to do the CMC within a month or so. And I'm going to trim the fenders to match the lines of a Pelfrybilt bumper once I get that in. I'm looking at a 1.25" wheel spacer as well.

Thanks for the info I looked at this a few times. The 295s is only 4 lbs more, just .3" taller than the 285s, and .2" wider. Plus the 295s are around $20 cheaper than the 285s.

 

True. The stock wheels and tires are about 61lbs a corner. Running 295s will likely put you in at over 90lbs a corner. I like trying to keep the weight down when possible and I don't see much benefit to the 0.3" larger tire for the added weight and width but true it isn't that much worse than the 285s in this case.

I currently have 285's.. I have done the cmc and pinch weld, I will probably go up a size when these wear out....

Yea tell me about it, haha. No problem. I hope you were pleased with the packing and everything was ok.

 

The fit depends on the offset of your wheel. Your gonna hit the uca with 4.5bs and 295s. If you put a spacer on the cmc and fender trim will be vital. I have spindles 285s and fn five star wheels -25 offset and they barely fit with cmc. You will need a bumper or a trim up front.

Also you will never find someone who stocks a 295 usually a special order, wait times, limited selection.

Nice wheels, and tire type are gonna have a much larger effect on performance and looks.
