Thanks, I'm trying to get it to the point where I can call and schedule the concrete pour. I'm sure it will slow down once that happens. Also will be nice to have my grass grow back after all the mess from the machines running around. Hopefully next week I can finish the stone and set the insulation on the floor.

 

Today I picked up a roll of vapor barrier from a local construction supply, damn this shit is expensive LOL

 

Two more truck loads of stone, this should keep me busy for another day or so


Also ordered the remaining insulation, 60 more sheets of XPS, damn I never realized how pricey insulation is

 

Got the rest of the stone spread today, started by grading and tamping the lean to area

Left over stone which I will likely spread in front of the entrance of the garage for now to keep from tracking mud in there until I get that black topped in the future.


Tomorrow I will lay out the vapor barrier. The rest of the insulation should be delivered next week and I need to find some plastic chairs for the mesh sheets to elevate them, haven't seen any good sources yet so I'll call a couple local places tomorrow and check the interwebs

Thanks, likely that area will be used for firewood storage and probably put a picnic table out there just for hanging out in the shade. Didn't really plan on storing too much under it and I also figured it would help visual aspect of the garage so that it's not just one giant structure haha

Well got a little more done then had a setback, but some progress none the less LOL

These guys stopped by today


Dropped off 60 sheets of 2" XPS for the floor insulation


Then I had a little accident with the backhoe moving it around, as I was turning the bucket smacked my well head and cracked it



So I spent most of today repairing that






I'm going to add a cement pole in front of it to keep that from happening again. I was real careful the whole time but the one second I let my guard down that thing exploded when the bucket hit it haha.

So now that I have the insulation, only thing I'm waiting on is some bolsters I ordered to elevate the mesh above the insulation, they should be here Thursday. Next weekend I hope to have the vapor barrier, insulation, and wire mesh finished and possibly start laying out the pex.

 

Sucks when something like that sidetracks the project.

Couple of updates

Picked up 2000' of pex the other day, ended up using 1750 ft. seven 250' loops fit nicely.


Vapor barrier placed on top of insulation, then placed down the sheets of 6 gauge wire mesh (5'x10' sheets) on 1.5" slab bolsters.



Start of the pex run, secured to the wire mesh with zip ties, ended up using close to 1k zip ties! The loops are spaced 12" from each other.


Here are the bolsters, worked out much better than the plastic chairs I originally had in mind and were cheaper in the long run

In the corner of the shop is where I will build the manifold. 7 feeds and 7 returns for a total of 14 pipes that I placed in sweeps to get secured during the concrete pour.


Next couple of days I will build a mock up manifold and place a pressure test on it to check for leaks, then keep it pressurized during the pour in case a leak develops so I can repair it. Concrete pour is scheduled for Thursday

I'm of no concrete knowledge, but is there a reason for the tubing not all running parallel but instead having the I'll call them bends to the end?

 

Yes, reason being is that all the loops must be the same length so that it gets heated equally since water takes the path of least resistance. So to get each loop from feed to return as you use up floor space they don't always end up even like that. Really makes no difference as you won't even see it once the concrete is poured. I had to also route the tubes around a square section where the lift will be going since they will be drilling anchor bolts there.

 

I guess I never thought of the equal length loops! Good deal man! Keep it up!

The concrete fellas came out last week, they did a real nice job. 4 or 5 guys were here for almost 9 hours working away.













I need to get another load of stone out front to bring the grade up to the front apron, and then spread some dirt by the lean to area to grade that as well. While I wait for it to cure, I will get the electric finished up and inspected, and go purchase the sealant for it.

I plan to etch it then use this stuff, anybody have any other thoughts or recommendations on sealant/waterproofing? I don't want to paint the slab just seal it up, this stuff seemed to have gotten good reviews.

Just a hint, there's different concrete sealers. Be sure to get one that resists oil and gas spills because the stuff on our garage floor gets eaten away by gas
