I finally wore out the stock BFGs on my 2013 Baja and wasn't sure what I wanted to replace them with. I was originally thinking Duratracs in a 265/75R16 E Range, but after pricing them on Tire Rack, I discovered that 285s were only a little bit more.

I knew 285s would be a tight fit, so I did a bunch of searching and found a few guys who were running 285s on stock Baja/TRD Pro suspensions and wheels, so I thought I would give it a shot.

I got them mounted today, so I don't have much time with them. They clear the UCAs just fine but the mud flaps have to go in the front, and would rub pretty badly on compression in the rear. The front tires came within about 1/4" of the fender flare on the fronts, so I trimmed that, and now I have closer to 3/4", and I could trim more if needed. Since I have already removed the stock bumper and trimmed the wheel liner, I can't speak to rubbing in front of the front tires.

I did hit a big bump (crossing a crowned intersection) which bottomed out the suspension, under full compression they do rub, but not terribly.

I do a lot of higher speed off road driving, but not a lot of crawling. If I was going to do more crawling oriented driving I definitely think the extra wheel well clearance of a 265/75R16 would be better. In the end I bought these tires primarily for their beefy looks, and they don't disappoint.

Decided to go out and get them dirty. They look much better dirty. I can't get the rears to rub at all. The fronts definitely hit the fender flare (right over the recess for the middle mudflap bolt) when you hit hard bumps, and would rub if completely stuffed. Definitely happy with the choice.

Not rubbing in the rear even when stuffed:

Apparently they didn't; messed around a little and think I got them working.

About 4 worked.. hmm. I might be able to fit 275s.. that's probably my limit tho. And not sure if duratracs come in 275

From looking at tire rack, they don't make a 275 Duratrac in anything under an 18" wheel. In the 16s and 17s they jump straight from the 265 to the 285.

I am not sure why, but there doesn't seem to be any need to do the cab mount chop (CMC) with this set up. Maybe the lower backspacing of the Baja beadlocks pushes the wheel out far enough. But even fully stuffed, I don't think I would hit the cab mount. In the bit of wheeling that I have done, the main rubbing has been when I am moving quickly on rough roads and the front suspension gets compressed. I would imagine in a highly articulated crawling situation they would rub too. But it's pretty livable so far.
