HELP please!!! Tire shine stains on paint.

Thats rust & iron fallout. Iron should take care of that.

I don't think so. It wasn't on there when I left the dealership but when I got home, the tire shine had slung up on the side and stained the paint. Unless I drove through something with iron in it....

 

Pick up some 3M buff compound and polishing compound and use a microfiber towel it will come off. Its probably just on the surface of the clear

 

Compound will not take it off, we tried that. Toyota wouldn't have replaced it with a brand new truck if it's something that would come off. Nothing would take it off short of using paint thinner and removing the white paint as well.

 

Is there a solution to this? I too experienced the same issue. I took it back to the detailer and they tried everything to removed it. Their theory is because the truck is so new that the paint didn't have time to fully cure. THey recommend that we take it to the dealer. But to be honest, what does a dealer know about paint. I just want to fix it, not get it resprayed.

 

I got a new truck out of the deal bc it was the dealer that put the tire shine on it and I'd only owned it less than 24 hours. Thats the only solution other than repainting. It's Toyotas fault in my opinion, they need to correct the paint or the paint process. How long have you had the truck?

You might have a leg to stand on, it may be worth complaining about. Especially since there is so much record of it happening to other guys as well. If you do a google search there's also a forum where Toyota replaced a new Rav 4 after the same thing happened. In my opinion its something Toyota needs to address, its an issue with the white paint, it isn't happening with any other color. Now i'm super paranoid about anything slinging up on my replacement truck. If I were you i'd print some of these forum articles and take them to the dealer and see if there's anything they can do. The truck is still under bumper to bumper warranty, it seems like that should also cover paint as long as its not something like rock chips.....especially if they're saying the paint wasn't cured completely. If thats the case, they shouldn't have sold it. If your's is like mine, its probably primarily on the "rock chip" paint section on the lower portion of the truck, right? This area is more porous than the rest of the body and more apt to absorb the stain.

 

I dont know what kind of paint thinner youre using but it wont take the white off. My family owns a body shop and weve been in the busniess for uesrs and paint thinner is used across all shops to remove paint teafer and all kinds of stuff. Once a clear coat is hardened thinner wont really do anything unless it pretty much sits on it. Most people confuse this with actual paint stripper.

 

We actually have a tool to measure paint thickness after a repair and using thinner didn't change it one bit.

 

It would seem there is no real solution to this problem, however After reading about it online, several people suggested letting the sun bleach it out. Since the OG it has been about three weeks and the stains have faded significantly. Anything that was on the actual body of the truck (doors and bed) has now gotten to the point where I can't really tell if it's there or not. The spots on the rock chip paint have not faded as much but they are only visible within 12 inches. I'm hoping in another few weeks they will fade out as well. I also purchased factory mud guards. They look alright and they have prevented anything from spraying up after washes.

 

It's actually happened on my Quicksand. So I am not sure what is going.

 

My dealership gave me a new truck and like some of you guys I'm worried it will happen again. I hope not! I'm a picky guy... before I left the dealership, I scrubbed the tires with grease lighting twice. When I got home I took off the tires and even scrubbed the inside of the tires Several times. I was surprised at the brown that came off the tires and I feel like I gotten everything off. I'm not going to use tire shine at all! So far so good!

 

Waxhaw Guy, so did it happen to your first truck and you returned it and they replaced it? I'm like you, i'm paranoid now. I did the same thing when I got home with my new one. I washed the tires really well and sprayed Purple Power on them and I couldn't believe the brown stuff that came off of them. So far so good. I drove in the rain yesterday and was a little worried what might sling off the tires but today there's a few dirty water spots but everything rubs right off.

 

Yes, the dealership put a lot of tire shine on the tires before I left with the first truck and gotten home that's when I noticed the brown spots the next morning when I was washing the truck. The replacement truck looks good so far. I'm like you I'm always checking to see if the issue returns. Plus I noticed the replacement truck had a different kind of tires from the first one. The original truck had Firestone and the replacement Has something else can't remember now.

 

I scrubbed the tires until I seen no sign of brown coming from the tires. The cleaner looks like it done the job as far as cleaning the tires. I will be pissed if the problem reoccurs.... Keep me informed on your truck and I will do the same..

 

Will do. Thats strange about the firestones on the first truck. All of the 2016 Off Roads are supposed to have Goodyears. Is yours an offroad?
