That's what I was concerned with. What kind of tire shine melted it?

i Believe it was tire wet and it completely melted and ruined it.

could you peel off the stuff that wasn't running, or did you have to load them up with the tire wet and dissolve the dip to remove it?

It was not easy to remove. it basically melted with the tire wet and then was like glued to my rims. I have a very high pressured power washer and it was barely taking it off. It took me forever and i tried using multiple different cleaners. most of them so powerful it would eat through the alloy rim but it wouldnt touch the melted plastidip. Nothing would take it off without screwing up the wheels

If one doesn't have the money to spend on new wheels (or spend responsibly), totally understandable. Dip, paint, or powder coat the stock wheels.

However I will say that I've noticed people who usually paint or powder coat (I'm not sure they are Plasti-Dipped) tend to get flaking around the edges of the wheel. It also fades and tends to look poorly over time.
If someone is an individual who is a little particular about the way their vehicle looks and spends a lot of time detailing, then you will more than likely be happiest with saving all your pennies for a new set of wheels.

The best way to dip wheels is going to be to remove each one and do a deep and extreme clean all the way around. Brake dust is highly corrosive and dipping the wheels can interfere with keeping them properly cleaned. So it's best to make sure they are spotless before putting the dip on them to ensure all of those corrosive materials aren't being held up against the wheel for however long you have them dipped. Eventually you'll start to notice the alloy start to flake off.

I agree new wheels would be best, I have just noticed a lot of folks have plasti dipped them and I was curious how it holds up over time. I was also concerned with how it reacted with tire cleaner/shine hearing that it has melted and was almost impossible to remove is what I was thinking was a possibility. I was trying to get a feel if the folks that have done it were happy with it?
