Yea... I made an offer. He countered. We're $500 apart. Oh shit, that happened quickly. Now its decision time. Do I really want to sell my truck and start over?

Yea, I know they are. I've wanted one for a long time. Plus, it wouldn't be my DD so I would have a little more freedom to build. It's a big decision, but I'm leaning toward buying it.

Those are pretty much fj80's with leather seats... If that tells you anything. If it doesn't, then leave your offroading privileges on the table on your way out. Along with your Toyota membership club ID.

He should probably do some research on some of the problems with them though. Unless of course he's not much into it anyway and it's just a toy then it doesn't matter

Yes, ha ha. Well, possibly. Not that I feel the need to justify, but I'm all for discussion so here's where I'm at.

My truck is stuck between what I want it to be and what I need it to be. Its too modded to be good at my 100mi/day commute, and that same commute keeps me from modding it further into what I want. I own the truck free and clear. It has 87,xxx miles and is going up 500mi/week, 2,000mi/month, 24,000mi/year, and that's just to work and back. I cant keep this up. At that rate, It won't be long at all before its value takes a big hit from having a ton of miles on it.

Why not keep the truck and buy a commuter car? I have about as much money tied up in vehicles as I am willing to have, so buying a "nice-ish" commuter isn't an option. I have already been down the road of having a cheap beater to DD. I don't like wondering if I'm going to be sitting on the side of the interstate 50mi from home. The last one nickel and dimed me to death before it finally bit the bullet and was sold for parts (after leaving me on the side of the interstate, again).

My truck's KBB is at $23,xxx. Who knows what it would sell for, but let's go with that for shitzNgigglez. For that amount of money, I could be the proud new owner of almost spotless 1st gen with 54,xxx miles and a very reliable car to put 100mi/day on. DD-ability of my truck would no longer be an issue and I could mod it as I please. That, to me, sounds more appealing that watching my truck being slowly driven to the point of death, all the while wishing it could have been an off-road war pig rather than just another hunk of steel sitting in traffic on I-40 in Nashville (I fucking hate Nashville).

Oh, and did I mention that I have always wanted a 1st gen? I miss having three pedals too.

Discuss. You won't hurt my feelings. I don't have any. :D

Totally agree with you. I wouldn't just jump in to a deal with one of those unless it was a steal.

Sounds like you need the first gen. Just do it and then you'll have more money to mod it to what you want. All while having a good DD. With that low of mileage (1st gen) it'll be in the family for years

That's more of what I was asking about. I know lots of people love them, but this one has a straight 6 that I know 0 about and has 242k miles. It seems like it would be sweet to own, but not if it's gonna have gremlins. I have 6500 in the silverado. I love that truck too and could use the money, but damn this lexus seems badass.

I think its best to figure out the platform you want now instead of further down the road. The first gen seems like a good idea in terms of saving. After you buy the 1st gen the residual money you would get for your 2nd gen would pay for gas for a very long time.

Well fuck. All you had to say was you drive an auto and you want a stick again. I'm sold. Buy the first gen!

Search for common problems, but it's a Toyota straight six. Super easy to work on.

Plus, worst case scenario you take the 6500 you have in a Silverado and turn it into a Lexus you could easily sell for 9-10k
