The S&W shield is a good gun.

You won't be disappointed!! If you're military, look for an authorized dealer near you. You'll save a ton of money.

I am not, price isn't a problem though.. (To an extent). Can't put a price on safety.

IDK if you have seen this or not but it is definitely worth a read. Keep in mind, ballistics gel tests are not be all/end all. It does help to compare different brands all in the same chart. It helped me decided on Critical duty +p in 9mm for my carry ammo. Once i shot a box of it first, to make sure my gun liked it.

What .22 rifle do you have? I might be able to help you out. Don't mean to hijack your thread. We can discuss via pm if you'd like.

To stay on topic, I have 9mm's, 45's and a Glock 23 40 cal. I carry the Glock everywhere. Comfortable for me. Hardly notice it anymore cause I carry it so much.

OP, I just ordered a shield. You have an option of getting it with or without a safety. Im getting mine with. Figured i could leave it off if desired. Just something to think about.

Just got back from running a few hundred rounds through a shield, g43, and P938. I shot all three equally as well but liked the shield the most. Just not a glock guy and not used to the trigger. The P938 just didn't feel right but shot fine. I also put 50 rounds through the LCP. I think the LCP will be going down the road as I know of a G42 for around $300 I can pick up this week. Nothing wrong with the LCP, just think the G42 would work just as well for the same carry reasons and be more fun to shoot.

Finished up by shooting my 1911. Yeah, I still prefer the 1911 to the fun 9s.

Something to remember about that safety. Always train to take it off safety when you pull it. Even if you think you will always leave it off. You never know when it will be on, even if you don't remember putting it on. It's very small and hard to work under stress. I got mine without the safety so it is not a liability.

The shield also has an upgraded version with a ported barrel, vented slide, fiber optic sights, and an improved trigger. The guys at the gun shop talked me out of it saying the flash out of the ports would mess with your night vision. The ports supposedly reduce the kick up. After firing the range gun, didnt see the need.
I duck hunt a lot and have a fiber optic sight on my shotgun and really like in early morning, low light. Thinking of having the shop put fo on the pistol. Anyone done that?

A lot of fanboys in here. OP, are you left or right hand? I'm a big FN whore simply because I'm a lefty and I feel there is no better full ambi gun than the FNS/FNX offering. You can't get them in single stack but my EDC goes between the FNS compact 9 and the full size FNS 9.

if you're gun has a safety, use it every time. Otherwise when (not if) it gets activated unintentionally you'll be in a world of hurt.

That said, on an S&W shield I wouldn't bother. Same with any other modern striker fired gun. But if you want a safety, get it and use it.

Me, I'm a 1911 guy, 'cause I'm stupid, invested heavily in .45ACP; and like my weapons more elegant, from a more civilized age.

The only use I see of the shield with safety is if it's going off be kept off body. Purse, car, etc. I think the safety is a good idea. Having a gun with a safety but not planning to use it sets yourself up for failure when you most need it.

I'm a 1911 guy too as I prefer my guns be blued steel and wood verses black and plastic, but I do have use for the shield.
