If you are in a higher gear the truck will be in higher Rev which will make more power.

I use the ECT button in town and when getting up on the freeway, it helps a lot. Once on the freeway, I turn it off.

Just to add on to that, ECT mode overrides Sport mode if you have both on at the same time. Ive done 10 runs playing with both together and every time it takes over.

I swapped out my exhaust to magnaflo and added a high flow filter (waiting for my AFE CAI), so ECT mode is really enhanced. Yes definitely you can get into your power band sooner since most trucks lack off the line and make up for it at the higher RPMS. Thats the power output change.

Go try what I said. There is no change in rpm. Keep a constant speed. There is no shift, no change in rpm or speed. But there is a noticeable change in power. Also the "current fuel economy " bar changes.

He'll I may go put her on a dyno just to see if my suspensions are correct. Having several gas and diesel vehicles that I could swap tunes on the fly, that is what this feels like to me. Not just a more aggressive shift point. Even though I'm sure that's part of it

It just holds a gear longer if you are accelerating. It won't change if you are just cruising.

You are just feeling a placebo, there is no power change.

Ect button is nothing new. My gf 98 rav4 has it.

I'd bet ya a Coke your wrong on that. I'll try to catch it on video.

I get the holding the gear longer. But in S mode it's not going to up shift until I tell it to. So again at a constant speed/rpm there is a loss or gain in power/performance of the engine

With ECT mode off I avg .4 mpg more than with driving with it on. Personally the trade off for a better accelerating vehicle is worth the extra few bucks a week in petrol.

As Ive mentioned before ECT mode is free tuning on the fly for your transmission, what most people pay $300-500 for with a device or dyno tune.

If you really want a smoother ride you need to rid yourself of the stock catbacks and OEM low flow filter - cabin silence comes at the expense of performance.

The track actually has NOS in it and hitting the button will activate it. Just make sure to buckle your seatbelt

    Off topic...

Noticed you had your 2012 supercharged - hows that working for you? Does it fix the issue with typical truck sluggish starts? (I imagine so). They retired the TRD SCs in 2015, so Im hoping at some point another company steps up and builds one for the 2016.

God, why can't Toyota call it the ECO button, like every other manufacture does, so there wouldn't be so much confusion and banter about it. I do enjoy these threads thou, they make for good reading while having downtime at work.

My thoughts on the ECT is that it changes the cycle the engine uses. When I press the ECT button, without the truck changing gear, I feel the truck tense and I have more power/torque to put down. The truck runs the Atkinson cycle normally. But my take is that it must change over to the otto cycle with more compression and different valve timing for the added power and torque. I also think it changes to the otto cycle if you give it the beans and get past 4K on an on ramp or off the line if ECT isn't pressed.
