But for real, what does dude want for the first gen? Unless there's something really wrong with it, that ain't shit for miles. Time wise, anything that has seals with some kind of fluid in it is suspect to needing replaced which is probably only an issue if the truck has been sitting for awhile. From knowing nothing else but what you just wrote to me, I would sell your truck, buy the first gen and buy a good cheap car (Honda civic or toyota corolla). I can't tell you I'd do the same but I'd also not own an auto so our starting paths would be much different. Haha but yes, I agree with other folks on this one mainly because financially it seems solid and most importantly because it appears it's what YOU want to do. I will say I don't approve on the color though .....:bored:

Just made a gentlemen's agreement at $13,500 pending my inspection and test drive tm. What all do I need to be looking for when I look it over. Frame rust, signs of fluid leaks. What else?

    They're all brown after :mudding:

Frame rust. Squeaks, leaks, odd looking stuff. Ask if he's done any of the recalls etc etc.

Hahaha I like how the truck in the gif is white. And I'd only check important stuff. Things like the motor, trans, diffs check for any oil leaks. Motor, check the oil. When was his last oil change? Smell the dipstick specifically for gas. Check the reserve coolant tank and look at the coolant for anything uncommon. Odd color, debree, smell it for gas as well. Basically looking for any kind of fluid crossover that would indicate bad engine internals. Look for any leaks around the head gaskets and crank. Trans, clutch and diffs ..... just drive it and see how it feels. Is there slop in the shifter? Does it grind any gear or have a problem going into a gear. Feel the rear diff on takeoff for any kind of popping sounds. Feel the diff when shifting gears for slop in the drive train. Check 4wd and make sure it EASILY works. Besides the main drive train components, things like a belt change, radiator hoses, even shocks and brake components should be looked at as consumables and unless something is just fucked, your good. I'd also try and drive it fast, speed wise, to feel for any high speed vibrations that may indicate drivetrain problems. Go WOT at some point even if it's just for 2 seconds at 2k rpms in 3rd. Also rev out a gear to see if something happens at high rpms. And yes, of course, check for frame rust.

Gideon's is much better do that haha. If it has an elocker check that it engages as well. Ask if he's done the grey wire mod (e-locker in 4wd hi not just lo), if not it won't engage unless you're in low

First gens have ball joint issues too, check those. Should be fine with that low mileage but never know.
    I wish! It's a 4.5L 1FZ-FE. 215hp 275tq according to good ol wikipedia

Yeah that's good info. Something I didn't know
That's a big motor with small motor numbers. Is it NA? And I don't know a thing about that motor. All I know is its a "luxury" suv made for offroading. The problem with luxury vehicles is they lose their lust eventually and when that occurs, what are you left with? I'm sure Mike has a good answer for that question .......

But they have catastrophic engine, transmission and 4wd failures alot. Seems to be dependent on miles. Somewhere in the 80k range if I remember correctly. Ask a few of the guys on here that have them cause they all have the same problems. And don't take what I'm saying as gospel because I'm not 100% sure on what I just said. What I am sure about is every thread/ build thread I've read has the same problems and everyone ends up with motor and trans swaps

Thanks. I'm making a check list. Open rear diff tho. Will be getting a mechanical locker if this goes through.

Does anyone want a 2nd gen satoshi mesh or even the whole grille? I want this shit out of my garage. Lol. There's no outer on the grille and craftsmanship is not perfect.
