Just busting some balls. So far so good but I want to check the tranny fluid level.

You realize the launch issues aren't even one of the reasons the truck is mediocre right? Issues can be fixed.

The truck is mediocre, average, bland, less than expected. With all the technology and knowledge and ability to manufacture high quality for cheap, this truck is average. This is not a 30k+ truck

It's not a bad truck, but it's certainly not a great truck like it should have been.

I also like the rear end looks, and also hate the big nose. Honestly I think it's the squinty head lights that make the front ugly. I feel like the nose would have been OK with headlights that rolled with it somehow.

This is a fair review, and one of the reasons I bought a manual. This is my 3 Taco, had one of each generation, also had a Tundra and have an FJ Cruiser. Every one except FJ had some issue. But nothing like the Chevy Tahoe I had after the Tundra. At 36k, conveniently after factory warranty, nearly every major system failed. Maybe its just me because I see 100k plus Tahoes out on the road?

If this truck was upgraded to the extent people "expected" you can believe it would be way outside the pricepoint it is at now.

As far as quality and the issues some are having, I think it needs to be made in Japan -- like the FJ was.

I love my FJ. It's a solid vehicle.

Right? Tell me I'm wrong, the Japanese build quality is night and day.

Well, I personally like everything about the truck -- so far. I agree the complaints are a bit much. And yes -- Toyota has issues, and like you said, appear to be inconsistent in production -- maybe because this truck is built in two different locations instead of a centralized location, like Japan -- which was my point. I bought this truck for what is was -- simplicity and a heritage of performance. If I wanted push button start, air conditioned seats, and an espresso maker I would have paid $15k more for an F-150.

This is the best truck at this price point. Period.

My feelings on the truck almost mirror exactly the reviewer thoughts. It has some major issues with drivability (and that's discounting the fact I've got some potentially major issues going on with my drive train due to my rear diff failure). Other than that the looks of the truck are great.

He's right about the gen 1 having more nuts around town than the gen 3. Even though the gen 1 is more than a decade old and has less displacement.

Edit: Accidentally said gen 2 instead of gen 1

And yeah, Toyota won't be willing to give him early press cars in the future, that's for sure. How most YouTube car review channels work is the car company gives them an early press car with the unwritten expectation that the reviewer will rave it about it and perhaps give one nitpicking criticism. If you don't stroke the auto manufacturer's junk you don't get the airfare, lodging and fun provided by the car maker at press events etc. All those huge YouTube review channels keep their opinions positive so they can keep their jobs.

I would say that I absolutely love my truck but this is the first 4wd i've ever owned and probably not the best guy to compare with.

I've noticed this a lot on this forum and the Facebook groups. Lots of people moving from a car to a Tacoma. I think those who have driven trucks for a long time had different expectations on how it should drive.
