So a bit of an update. Estimator did his figures only on what he could see. Just over 6k as of now. It's going to a Toyota collision center and they are going to nit pick the hell out of it. If it is going to be repaired it's going to be with genuine Toyota parts from a Toyota repair shop. Hopefully I'll know more by the end of the week

    $6k in repairs?

Seems a little light in my opinion.

    Keep the updates happening.

    Thanks

I know it's not the answer you wanted and that's tough with a brand new vehicle. No doubt it will be fixed with 100% Toyota parts, no matter where you take it.

My advice would be to go with the BEST body shop in town and that is likely not a dealership. You will have a lifetime warranty on the work they perform.

    Best of luck.

I was just going to mention that. Toyota dealerships don't usually have the best body shop.

The dealer body shops are usually garbage. Go out and find your own. There is no such thing as a "Toyota" body shop.

Well when you make it to Colorado, PM me and let me buy you a beer. I guess I should 1st ask if you drink beer. Do you?
I live in Fort Collins. Where do you plan on moving to? I figure you will be relatively close if your wife is going to CSU.

Not a big drinker, but would love to know some locals before we get out there. We are leaving a week from today and have a place in family housing with CSU. We hope to start looking for houses as soon as we can, just tired of renting and not having a garage.

No big deal, but Fort Collins does have 26 breweries! Pretty insane for a small town. There is much to do around here. Plenty of good 4 wheel driving. Lots of back country forest service roads. Have you looked at home prices here? If not, prepare for sticker shock. My mom is getting ready to sell her 1 bedroom condo with garage that is close to campus for about $177,000.
So is your truck taken care of now? You don't want to buy a Tacoma out here. They sell fast. They usually do not sit on a car lot for long. Tacoma's and Subaru's - everybody has one Colorado.
Do you ride dirt bikes or snow ski?

I lived in Hawaii for several years, so I am well aware of the sticker shock. The taco is in the shop starting the tear down now so they can send the supplemental estimate. I talked with Pederson Toyota before we even bought the truck and they were going to order one for us, but we were outside of our moving window. As for dirt bikes I rode my uncles once when I came back from Iraq years ago and I have never tried to ski before. I couldn't surf very well when I was out in Hawaii but body boarding I was more ok with. The dealership working on my truck started ordering parts to fix it before it hit their shop so hopefully it wont be "too" long before I have answers.

Talked with the body shop a few min ago. Frame is toast. They can do a frame swap but it's unknown when they would get one. First estimate was 6k in damages. Now it's someplace between 20-25000 additional repair costs. And that is without looking at the axle or drive train that was pushed forward. They are finishing up the second damage assessment to send of to the insurance. He said he would be surprised if the decide to repair it.

I figured someone was talking out their ass when they threw out that $6k number.

    Thanks for the update.

Since this smells like total, can you score the black sunvisors out of it and sell them to me?
