I'm returning to pick up my truck next Tuesday. I am anxious to see if they applied the TSB and how it impacted performance. I am trying to keep tempered expectations. I feel like I enjoyed the truck more when I first bought it. Felt like some of the issues would improve with time and mileage unfortunately my experience has been the opposite thus far. Surely the rear diff failure and Corporate's refusal to approve a replacement of my leaf springs has not helped.

I'm wondering how he would have felt about a manual? That's what I've ordered, and I am coming from a 150hp hatchback... so I expect I will be happy.

We've had the 1st and 2nd generation Toyotas and loved them both. We even had a 1988 Toyota before it was named Tacoma. We had absolutely NO issues with any of these.
I love my 3rd generation but I will have to say I think the 2nd generation performed way better. I am taking mine in on Thursday for the TSB, let's see if that changes my mind......

And a whole let less government regulated mandates to comply with. Just sayin'.
Each year, it's getting harder for manufacturers to meet EPA, CAFE, and NHSTA standards that keep getting more stringent.

Most all of your posts are bitching about the tranny problem R-D that has been fixed with a TSB. So now whats the problem ???

Or Toyota could have pulled a Nissan Frontier and stretched out the 2nd gen Tacoma several more years instead of producing this lackluster half-assed redesign.

Given more time and more budget, they could have created a better redesign. Seems like the turd gen was rushed to counter the GM twins.

Hell Nissan's 11 year old Frontier is still doing well in sales just keeping it the same.

People do care. They are selling more Frontiers now than the last several years.

The Pathfinder is embarrassing, they killed the Xterra, and the Titon looks like a F-150, not to mention the Frontier is fugly.

It is a great and honest review, and despite the flaws that he names i LOVE my truck. But, what is this tranny ECU update that you speak of?

I rather have an ugly truck that has a fully boxed frame that doesn't rust, low end torque and smooth transmission. Function over form.

I do help out the community. Look at the recent broken windshield thread. My other ride is a Land Cruiser 100 series which is a pinnacle of Toyota engineering. Looking underneath a 3rd gen and my 12 year old Land Cruiser, the Land Cruiser has it beat. Toyota can do so much better with the 3rd gen, but they dropped the ball. You fan boys just keep failing to realize that and accept buying a $35k- $40k underperforming truck.
