    We hit the Sierras in May. Camped at Rancharia campground off Huntington Lake. Hit as many trails as we could in the surrounding area. It is amazing up there.

    We just cancelled our planned trip to go back up there next week :(

    The snow on the roads were just clearing up when we went end of May. There may still be a lot of snow in April and some roads probably closed. I think anytime from end of May until snow starts again would be optimal.

    When we went, there were a few passes we had to turn around because of large snow drifts still covering the road.

    True. May be fine going up earlier, depending.

    We didn't hit any major difficult trails (though I've read there are some up there). Ran everything stock. The scenery and environment are worth the trip.
