The basic answer to this ahould be " Why should I care what you want and where do you get the idea you can tell others what to do?"

Hey guys, this is the second Gen thread. We're better than this! This thread got off track quick.

OP, in my old car that had this, I used to keep my wallet in it. It was one of those long ones to keep bills straight.

While working inside the vehicle I would keep screwdrivers there.

Am I in the 3rd Gen section?

Also, I used to have a cb radio in the pocket on my last truck.

I've had a single DIN forever. Does what I need it to do. I have a standalone GPS because my wife sometimes needs it..easier to move that versus the radio.

I rarely use my phone in the truck but my radio is Bluetooth compatible.

When it croaks ill get another single DIN. I mainly can't stand the stocker, plus I have a whole system that's gone from vehicle to vehicle with me for the better part of 200 years.

My old '91 had a pocket under the radio like this and I stuck my wallet in there, too. Adding the little storage spot is high on my list of reasons I'd yank the factory stereo out and go to a single DIN like the OP. The only thing that keeps me from doing it right now is that I'd be OCD about having non-functional controls in the steering wheel.

They make things so you can keep steering wheel controls! I installed one on a buddy's Ford explorer, and it wasn't too hard.

Those 200 year old vacuum tube radios have the sweetest sound, don't they? :)

I have a 1st gen, but the thing I can think of that might be of use there, assuming you will eventually get one, is those "ScanGauge 2 and/or ScanGauge E" units? They just might fit there :notsure:

If you go offroading, not everyone does, but if you go offroading, like another member had already stated, a CB and/or a HAM mobile radio. The HAM radio I have is a Yaesu FT-1900R that LOOKS like it just might fit, heightwise? The case dimensions are: 5.5"W x 1.6"H x 5.7"D w/o knobs per the Yaesu *.pdf manual off of their website. I definitely remember the width and depth being about that when I was making my "custom" face plate/bezel for the radio and the mounting of the radio. Anyways, here's the link if interested:

    https://www.yaesu.com/indexVS.cfm?c...A05D9F038967A35D08&DivisionID=65&isArchived=0

Since you have a 2nd gen and your veh computer outputs more "valuable data" than mine, I would go for the Scan Gauge 2 or similar route. Assuming you want that type of real-time information???

Just my 2cents for FWIW :D:thumbsup::cheers:

btw, my radio has a cassette deck, LOL!!! I have a tape adapter so I can connect my mp3 player to the truck!!! ROFL!!! It does what I want it to do just fine!!!

Oh, AND, where you see the HAM radio, that is where "my" pocket was in the truck. Where the CB is located, that is where the ashtray used to be. I don't smoke so...

Not a true Maine coon, but maybe half, like yours. Passed away recently. He and I used to take walks together, after midnight. He'd always follow me.

So I put my wallet in there. It was still there when I tried to pay for my groceries. Ha!

I used to have a custom switch panel in my Din from my S-Pod. My TRD model didn't have any open Aux switch locations they were all filled with factory crap. I have since moved that switch panel to the headliner (Pic Below).

I am thinking about mounting my VHF radio in the free space now.
