2007 Hood Protector

I had the OEM one installed. It has metal brackets that goes over the leading edge of the hood. Keeping the metal brackets off the hood are paper thin vinyl mylar strips. The metal rubs against the mylar strips eventually rubbing through them to the paint on the hood . Stay away from the OEM hood shield at all costs even if you get it for free. I replaced mine with a weathertech model. I love it. It attaches with using the same holes under the hood as the OEM one. Plus cost wise it's very competitive. Weathertech makes great products...you won't find many complaints about them. I think with shipping mine cost $70.

 

Where did you find it for that much? Any pictures of it installed?

I just got my truck last month, so far all I have purchased for mine is the husky liner floor mats.

I'm really leaning toward the AutoVent model, but I want to see it installed before I make my decision.

 

Well I don't have the OEM, but I did order and will have tomorrow my Earl Ownes Products deflector, that is the same as the Bugdeflector II, just boxed in a brown box for the Earl Owens Company. It was $36 and some change. It will mount from under the hood with the factory holes. Since 1996 when I purchased my first new truck (f150) and then again in 2001 (f350) and now my new Taco I have ordered all of my accessories from www.earlowen.com . On the web it's kind of hard looking for or at what you want, but they have to be one of the biggest suppliers for this stuff. I have gone to their shop and listened to the phone ring non stop and have been put on hold for long period of time due to being bombed by customers. The prices have always been good. So far I have ordered my Husky Liners floor mats, which I want to say are about $50 less than the Weathertech, and now the hood protector. You guys should give them a try, they have 2 locations in Texas only, but will ship to any BUSINESS address. Happy hunting!!

 

I have one mounted to my truck as well, very similar to the one pictured above. These should be called "Hood edge guard/protectors", rather than bug deflectors!! They don't stop bugs from hitting the windshield at all!! As a matter of fact, I think they encourage it!!

I ended up getting the AVS one, I gotta say installation was a breeze and it looks fantastic!!

Yep. I have OEM and it's true. I've been running around trying to find some 3m tape to replace the tape that's scrunched down from the original clips and it looks like they're wearing into my hood. Ouch!

 

Damnit... I should have a Toyota Bug Shield (more of a rock shield around here) sitting on my porch when I get home. I had no idea it mounted like that. It's definitely going back.

 

Never had a bug guard that really worked completely so I stopped using them. I use to have the "magna" bra which protects the front of the hood but it wore out as well. Now I have LineX Extreme, I think it's going to hold up for the long haul.

 

+1 I had one on my '05 and the metal brackets chipped up the paint. Still looking for a replacement...

I purchased the weather tech bug/rock shield for my 09. My results were not good and I returned it. The way it mounted to the hood was flimsy, the shield actually rubbed on the leading edge of my hood which looked like it would wear quickly and lastly the shield did not center on my grill and actually rubbed on it in two spots.

Now either my truck is really out of wack or the shield wasand I'm going to say the shield!

After this attempt, I'm not even sure I want to try another brand, I may just do without!

Mine isn't OEM but it does sit directly below the hood. I guess if you never washed your truck and let dirt pile up it may do some harm to the paint? I don't know? I have had this brand a few times and have never had any problems. If it does scratch the paint it would be underneath the hood I'm guessing? Here are some pics of what I have.....









I have had my truck over 2 years now and installed this shortly afterwards. All is good! Hope this helps.
