My OR has a painted rear bumper too. That's not really a value added upgrade however as its cheap to color match parts compared to buying a locker

Above is the link to the differential specs based on model.

I agree, I dipped my chrome bumper too (matte black). It's cheap to color match, but you gotta agree the limiteds on the road look really good with the color match bumper from the factory. I'm just sayin' not many people are looking to rip off a bumper to paint it right after they take it home from the dealer, and the one thing I wish mine came with is a painted bumper.

Also, the locker is great for wheeling... but I understand that MANY MANY people never intend to off road the way you and I do... I haven't needed the locker yet, but I am really glad I have it. A-TRAC will be just fine for most people driving in dirt/snow.

Break open rear end and put a locker in it, new tires and wheels, new suspension ...yet paint an easily replacement body part a big deal. I agree with what your saying but the logic doesn't compute if you think about it

I get it bro! All I'm saying is some people don't want/need a locker... and some people want a painted bumper but have no intentions of ripping off the bumper of a brand new truck.

We're on the same team man, in my mind I think it's crazy to spend more money for less capability. I'm just trying to rationalize things for someone who isn't planning on ever using a rear locker (which is 90% of dudes on this site, btw).

This OP bought a fully loaded Subi, when I would buy a stripped down WRX and drop a turbo in it myself. Different strokes for different folks. I'm under the assumption he wants creature comforts, heated seats, and painted bumpers straight from the factory... So I'm giving my opinion based on my anticipation for his needs and wants.

If I were buying new again I'd selects a 4x4 model by interior features, then build th3 suension/drive line to my spec aftermarket.

Rear lockers are way too over rated by some old time off-roaders these days.
There was a time when I could justify them, that being back in the days before A-TRAC- TRAC-LSD.
Back In those days, before the auto industry found more clever uses for abs, the diff locker was a must have in an off-roader’s combat arsenal.
Not no more, IMO it just makes the diff less reliable by adding more complexity to the rear end.
Moreover, skills, off-road skills, still trumps technology. You have to know when to use it, and when it will hinder to be at the top of your game.
I think the OP just wants to feel comfort and security in almost any off-road terrain and except for rock crawling, the LTD will make him happy.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

even after the TSB, it may feel sluggish for the first 1000 to 1500 miles until the engine learns what you want to do, and break-in finishes. Enjoy! I know I love mine:cheers:

I know mine isn't a third gen. But I got my off road because I thought i wanted a locker.

Me personally have had no use for it in stock form. Just reg 4wd has been all I needed. The only time I have engaged it is every now and then to make sure it still works.

I domt care for the down hill control. Atrac hasn't been used at all. Sometimes I wish I got the sport or a limited.

    YMMV.

There's a very strong reason to get one.

Got the TSB done. Much better throttle response. Before it felt like you had to floor it to keep up with other cars in city traffic. Power didn't really kick until at least 3K rpm. Now, you don't have to floor it because the throttle response feels more linear than exponential. No it doesn't make it feel like a V8, but it just minimizes that throttle response delay i felt before the TSB was done. All in all, it makes a good truck, feel like a great truck. And in response to previous posts, I bought the high end Subie Limited model because I wanted the high end comforts and features. I'll probably never go off-roading(unless the zika virus merges with ebola and shows up inside a chipolte burrito and turns the world into the walking dead scenario. In that case, I'll cry myself to sleep every night for not getting the Off-Road model.)

to be fair just clearing the ECU helped with most of these things before the TSB...but the problems resurface after about a month of driving...
