My TRD Sport has an Annoying Vibration

    2016 Tacoma TRD Sport
About two months ago I bought my 4th Toyota Pickup- this one I downsized from my Tundra DC to a Tacoma DC. For a number of reasons, I selected the TRD Sport model. Well, on the drive home, we noticed an annoying vibration in the vehicle. Took it back to dealer number 1. They road-force balanced the tires and the vibration initially seemed to be "better". Since it did not go away, I returned it to dealer 1 for another chance to eliminate it completely. No such luck - they didn't do much, and said all TRD Sport models do that - so its normal operation. Took it to dealer 2, who tried swapping out tires from other vehicles, and said the problem didn't go away, and all TRD Sport models have the vibration, so no repair is necessary. The vibration now begins about 45 MPH and goes away at just over 50MPH. I had a friend with an identical truck try mine, and he confirmed his truck does not have the problem.

Does anyone else have a similar problem? Any insight into what might be causing it?

No I have a sport too... Did you have your drive line lubed? There's been issues with folks receiving trucks with u-joints bone dry like mine were.

    Sounds like a tire problem.
Go to a reputable tire shop and have them checked for any sort of belt separation, out of roundness and balanced.
Moreover, and this is a seldom done item, ask them to torque each tire evenly to specs (83ft lbs) by hand, and you should see a notable difference.
It sucks I know, but you can call corporate, show/send them the dealer findings and your repair bill and ask for a reimbursement or something in return.
    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

Welcome to the club. I've gotten used to mine now. I'm sure once I lift my truck, change the rims and tires I'll have even more vibrations lol

I've had (having) this issue...bought it with K02's and TRD pro rims, and was told it's how the tire handles. I call bullshit, and like others, am just living with the vibration. It was almost a breaking point for me...actually had the truck posted for sale after 1 month, but decided to wait this out until my first check-up. My vibration is from 90-120km/hr (~55-70mph)
And yes, my tires were inspected, road balanced...I basically was told I was feeling nothing. This is my 5th Tacoma (and last)!

There are a million things I could ask my dealer…lube, trans levels, tire issues….the list is long…in the end, the dealer will look at me with a blank stare and say they can't do anything, or it is to be expected.
They will also try to teach me what is normal with this truck…yet 99% of the people on this forum are WAY more knowledgeable, and again…this is my 5th Tacoma.
    I digress! :anonymous:

I have a TRD Sport with KO2's up one size on stock wheels, and before that drove it with the stock tires for 5,000 miles and don't have any vibrations with either set of tires.

I simply asked the OP if he lubed the driveline... he hasn't responded to anyone that I know of and with only 2 posts, it could be the OP is trolling for bs... IDK.

I've had my Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 for about a month now and did not feel the vibration at first with stock tires...I recently put on the BFG KO2's (original size - 10 ply) and noticed vibration so I though it was the 10 ply tires...I went to tire shop and swapped to a 265/270/17 KO2's and still feel a bit of a vibration at odd speeds. This tire is better but still vibration. And, I thought it was the tires...I'm gonna look into it.

I have a very similar vibration in my Sport 4x2. Most noticeable over 70mph, steering wheel vibration and also feel it through floorboard and seat. This is my 2nd 2016 sport as an accident totaled my 1st. one after 2 months. No vibration in 1st one. 3 trips to dealer; 1st time said they could not duplicate vibration. 2nd time they forced balanced tires no difference in vibration. 3rd time told me there is a known issue with vibration caused from bed of truck but they have no repair solution yet. Love this truck but if they don't fix the vibration it will be my last one soon.
